Description: We offer a local cuisine based on the best artisanal products of Colonia...
We offer a local cuisine based on the best artisanal products of Colonia, in the most emblematic street of the old quarter of Colonia del Sacramento, the “Barrio Sur”, a World Heritage site, in a typical house of Portuguese construction of early 1700s. Wines of local vineyards, artisanal cheeses, homemade jams, olive oil, spirits, grappas, and typical pastries are part of the menu, to take or to taste at the store. Whether in a small and intimate room or at the courtyard, you can taste different appetizers based on a selection of artisanal local cheeses served with sweet and sour sauces, combined with salami, sausages, ham, vegetable tarts, and chicken brochette. In winter, homemade soups of onion or pumpkin; in summer, salads.

Enchanting spot, great staff, fun, local food and wine

On a sunny afternoon this was a great spot to sit in the courtyard, enjoy local cheese, wine and good food, improve my Spanish with the English speaking waiter, and watch the local cats jump across the roof. We loved it

This historic building is housing one of the best places on earth to sit down and enjoy wine and cheese (or soup or any other item on the menu!). You have to duck your head to get inside the ancient storefront. We instantly felt welcomed and snuggled into an old world atmosphere. The wine selection was very interesting and the... More

Amazing cave like place. Great service attention and food. The specialty is wine and cheese platters and you can order samplers to get a taste of the best Uruguayan cheeses and wines. We also had a soup and lasagna which was natural and home made, amazing!

We very much enjoyed this magical, intimate and quirky little restaurant located on an ancient street in historical colonia. Plenty of atmosphere and felt a bit more authentic than the numerous other places in colonia - two of which we also visited and were a bit disappointed by. The food and menu is pretty straightforward- local cheeses wines and meats.....it's... More

With just a one-day visit we wanted a lovely lunch and wow did we get it in spades. Excellent service, great food, fantastic wine and a lovely little shop, too. Spanish and English spoken. We had a tasting menu and different wines with each course. In the South American summer it was lovely to be in the patio area. I... More

Ok. We are both well travelled. You must go here if your in Colonia del Sacremento. The food was solid but it was possibly the coolest atmosphere of any restaurant we have seen. It's in an old fort. The ceilings are really low. We sat in a little alcove in the courtyard. Awesome.

hidden spot -in the Calle de Buen Suspiro. Excellent good value lunch consisting of little tapas, in a covered cool courtyard.

We visited Colonia del Sacramento for a couple of days at the end of a trip around Uruguay. We read the reviews of El Buen Suspiro and were recommended also by our Hotel. The setting is fantastic in a renovated building, almost invisible from the street in the heart of the old quarter of the town. After the underwhelming food... More

Wonderful place for wine and cheese. Try to sit in the front room near the fireplace. Excellent wines, great local cheeses. For a full meal, I would prefer looking somewhere else. The street is historic, worth seeing.

This is my second time in this restaurant and is as good as the first one. Great cheeses and an extensive selection of local wines that are hard to fine. The service is good by people that know their wines.
