We offer a local cuisine based on the best artisanal products of Colonia, in the most emblematic street of the old quarter of Colonia del Sacramento, the “Barrio Sur”, a World Heritage site, in a typical house of Portuguese construction of early 1700s. Wines of local vineyards, artisanal cheeses, homemade jams, olive oil, spirits, grappas, and typical pastries are part of the menu, to take or to taste at the store. Whether in a small and intimate room or at the courtyard, you can taste different appetizers based on a selection of artisanal local cheeses served with sweet and sour sauces, combined with salami, sausages, ham, vegetable tarts, and chicken brochette. In winter, homemade soups of onion or pumpkin; in summer, salads.

The Good Breath

A good restaurant serving appetizers and an excellent tasting of local wines, in a warm atmosphere, dating back to colonial times. Annexe there is a small gift shop that sells good local wines.

Try local, wines and tapas type food in the heart of the old town in the street of Sighs - allegedly so called because of the brothers in this street by the ancient port. The food is good and the atmosphere unusual - anyone over 5 feet tall needs to duck!

Buen Suspiro is simply fantastic. A must must must!!!! Glorious Uruguayan wines served with local cheeses and sausage / salami selections. Warm and attentive service. Very modest prices. The garden area is quirky and fun. The bodega is ancient - steeped in history. You absolutely must go when in Colonia. Don't miss the experien

This is a wine bar. Cheese platters are average and expensive. Wine was good. Great position. Very cute and small. Service is very good. Nice place to visit and have a wine. Don't come here if you are on a budget. Don't come here for a coffee. It's $7.50 Australian. What a joke! I only give this 4 stars as... More

This is more of a wine and tapas style bar. The menu is limited but it is satisfying. Big trays of meats, cheeses, and other snacks makes for a fun and filling meal - especially when enjoyed with some good local wines. The place is tiny but cute. Several day trip tour groups came wandering through to just to look... More

El Buen Suspiro was an amazing discovery for me. A very cozy place with one the best services in Colonia del Sacramento. There, we tried a variety of "reserva" and "gran reserva" tannat wines (the very Uruguayan wine) and tasted some cheese with "fiambres" ( kind of typical Uruguayan salamis) and local exquisite olive oil. By the way, the place... More

We were supposed to go to another place but my elderly parents, both with canes and limited motion, could not stay over there. So we walked all the way up in a very steep and complicated little road with El Buen Suspiro's staff help. The place is tiny but very cozy, and the wine and the "picada" are amazing. Again, they... Don't expect the meal of your life. The picadas ( small appetizers) are good and seem authentic. Wine list is impressive and wine is great ! The location is so charming, like a hidden gem on the Calle de los Suspiros, patio is perfect for a nice lunch. Service is sweet

El Buen Suspiro specializes in “picadas” (cheese tastings, charcuterie, savory jams) and wines. We had a nice supper based on that, having a glass of strong local tannat (reserva) as well, although they will happily serve you a wine flight. The cheeses and even meats tend to be Swiss-like in character. We enjoyed the evening in a terrific historic setting... More
