Fine food

A unique restaurant that attempts to replicate some of the older Ottoman mealtime traditions. They don't use potatoes or tomato paste as is often used in Turkish cooking, since these ingredients were not discovered during early Ottoman times. We obviously went on the wrong night. There was no one on staff with whom we could communicate in English, French or German. This was not a barrier in other restaurants but seemed to be a problem here. The service was overly enthusiastic, we were pressured to order quickly and the waitress did not get our order right. Not all... More

I had learned about somatci through a conversation with a shopkeeper near mevlana museum. He reccommended the venue for its professionalism and unique menu. I decided to give a try and visit somatci. The location is about 10 min. Walk from the mevlana museum in a restorated quarter of the city. You can see tourist tour buses frequently as the... More

I went there to try the food people ate in the ancient times. No regret. The restaurant is very beautiful and best experience is to dine under in the open air in it's very nice courtyard.. Food is well presented with description for each dishes and the staff are always ready to explain to you about the food. Taste of... More

Interesting menu using fresh local produce and traditional dishes. Sufi music added to ambience. Waiters very attentive and keen to explain origins of food. Honey sherbet and rose sherbet provide between dishes are delicious.

We had no idea what to choose as everything sounded great so the waiter chose for us. We started with a traditional soup and then he gave us two taster courses to follow where we had a small portion of most things on the menu. The oven baked meat was a bit dry but otherwise every dish was nice with... More

Arrived at around 9p on a Saturday night and had the place to ourselves. The menu consist of various types of Ottoman/Selcuk dishes prepared in the traditional way - no spices, peppers, etc. The meats were well prepared. The décor is Mevlana dominant and very nice. We enjoyed the experience.

My wife and I went to this restaurant and have not been disappointed at all. Just a warning to everyone, this is not the sort of food you normally get around Turkey. Yes, some dishes are similar, however it still manages to taste differently because it is a Mevlevi kitchen. So if you have been around Turkey and had good... More

Recommended by the hotel, rated well in this website but none of it makes sense. I feel the owners have gamed TripAdvisor to increase ranking. Flavourless, poorly presented uninspired food. Easily the worst meal I've had in my week in Turkey.
