Loved the place, loved the food. Egg Benedict with salmon, coconut cake with real big pieces of coconut, fresh hot ginger with pure honey which i could only drink inside by the christmas tree, next to the fire place, because the wasps wouldn' t let me do so.;-) Beautiful garden with really cosy and romantic set-up with white stained steel... This is - in spite of its location at the edge of the township - an extremely popular place in Chiang Rai. It is definitely a gem, a crossbreed between what is probably the best restaurant in Chiang Rai and a Café. The slightly upscale restaurant serves great food. Actually, we could not resist returning there for a second time.... More

I've been to chivit twice since moving to chiang rai and I could honestly run out of superlatives to praise this brilliant restaurant. It's cheap compared to western standard food, the food is delicious, the staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is great. I tried the pork curry and it's genuinely the best thai good I've ever tried. The... More

My Thai wife and I stopped in at the recommendation of Trip Advisor. The great service started outside as they have staff to assist with parking. Happened to run into the owner (Joakim) outside as he walked his dog. He greeted us with a great smile and friendly demeanor. Once inside we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast by the river. Service... We visited Chiang Rai to celebrate Loy Krathong and chose to eat at Chivit Thamma Da on the strength of the Trip Adviser ratings. It is great when you go so somewhere and can say "I didn't expect to find something this good in Chiang Rai". It is a beautiful cottage style building although we sat outside overlooking the river... The coffee house is located by kok river. The house is beautiful. English cottage style. The Terrace by the river is the best location you should sit. Food is delicious. I like it so much 'noomsao chiang rai fried rice'. Good taste. Banoffee is signature. Coffee is good taste. Try civil thamada coffee. However the price so a bit expensive.... More

The Chivit is one of those nice surprises you find from time to time, located on the edge of the Kok river with wonderful gardens to sit and relax and watch the flurry of small boats pass by. The Swedish owner and his Thai wife has created a very contemporary sophisticated atmosphere with a great menu and a huge selection... More

Seriously, this place is amazing! It is so hard to describe... It is the incarnation of everything my wife and I would've put into a restaurant (in our dreams), and then some. The food, the service, the design of the place, the live soft music, the river by it, the deck, the bone china, the furniture, the vegetation, the decor...... More

I agree with the other reviewers that the setting is unbeatable. I dont agree with the raving reviews on the banoffee. Just lots of cream with a few slices of banana and some melted chocolate. The coffee wasnt any better than the 35 baht coffee i had a few hours ago. The salads i saw passing by do look nice.... More

Dear Ward T, Thank you so much for coming to see us and for taking the time to write a review. We are so sorry that you did not like the Banoffe pie. Banoffe is a classic English desert made around the world based on the same base ingredients. Our version is made fresh every day with chocolate tart, banana,... More
