Saw the reviews in TA, as well as the photos and decided to give it a try. The property is really lovely, such is the setting. We selected a table in the garden right in the shadow of a big tree. The service is very well trained - but a bit too pushy for my taste. We ordered the Thamma... More

Dear HONkiev, Thank you for your kind words about our property, service and setting! We are so sad you did not enjoy some of your dishes. We think there must be some confusion. You mention you ordered a Thamma Da Iced Coffee but the picture you posted shows a Caramel Frappe. The Caramel Frappe is a very good selling item... More

This place translates as 'normal life' which it definitely isn't as it is a special place and definitely worth a visit. Great food and ambience with friendly staff, we always have a lovely time here. The prices have increased since my last visit but still worth it, only downside is the mosquitos but not a big problem and doesn't detract... More

Touring Northern Thailand & Laos for Christmas and New Years made us a little homesick on Christmas eve. We had booked two wonderful massages at the spa (see other review) and dined afterwards. What a wonderful, magical setting and hands down THE best food I've had in Thailand. I'm still thinking about the main dish (meatballs with spicy sauce,) East... More

Dear Travelbird0505, Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews of both our spa and cafe. I hope you got back home safely and that you enjoyed your Chiang Rai visit. Nam Kok, the golden puppy, is doing well now after his adventure and has become resident dog no 8... Again, thank you and hope to see soon! More

The lush garden of the restaurant would be a good setting for a fairy tale. The menu leans heavily on Western food, but there are some good Asian options. The lemon mind smoothie was very refreshing, and the nothern thai pork curry flavorful, though spiced down for the Western palate. The prices range between 150-400 baht for the different dishes.

Dear L S, First of all thank you for coming all the way from Washington DC and finding our little place! We really appreciate your review calling our garden a fairy tale setting, it makes us very proud as we spend a lot time taking care of it. Plants and decoration are close to our hearts. Thanks also for the... More

With a delightfully unusual atmosphere by the river with an interesting and unexpected world war II theme, this is well worth a visit (or more)!

Dear Nigelmarkham, Thanks so much for your great review! I'm glad you liked some of the old stuff we have collected over the years, I have to admit that the WW1 and WW2 era interests me a lot and maybe that shows.....,, Soon my BSA M20 from 1940 will be parked outside as well! Chivit Thamma Da is much MORE than a coffee house! Whether one is enjoying a full meal or "just" coffee, there is ambience here like none other we've experienced in Chiangrai. Choice of seating indoors, surrounded by "tea house" ambience; outdoors, either on the grounds or beside the river. Food is singularly good (assorted menu of mostly Swedish and other... More

Dear Food4eat, Thank you for your wonderful review!!! We are so happy you noticed and appreciated so many things! Also thank you for pointing out the issue with the lamb, we had some delivery problems but that has now been fixed and NZ lamb chops are back on the regular menu! Thanks again and see you soon! One of the nicest restaurants and cafes I've been to, Chivit has both delectable food as well as a unique decor and atmosphere. Fashioned perhaps after a drafty house in Georgia, the restaurant is filled with antiques that make it stand out from any other restaurant I've been to in Thailand. The food contains organic ingredients from their garden. Loads... More

Dear Calanagear, Thank you for coming all the way from LA to our little town and our place! Amazing. You are very correct when designing the cafe we were inspired by early colonial structures in America such as wooden churches and mansions. The garden is meant to be a bit English, as much as this is possible in CR, otherwise... More

This is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They do serve an all day breakfast and I had a lovely eggs benedict for dinner when I was there. They are connected to the spa of the same name and I had dinner after a very relaxing spa treatment. I sat outside in the garden, overlooking the river. The... More
