Good job

The staff at the Early Bird have done a good job and after reading some of the reviews below I wasn't expecting much. I was particularly looking for the 'omelettes with funny names', but sadly couldn't find any..... just normal names now. Good selection of 'western' style breakfasts, burgers and... read more

Hey, I've lived and worked in Taichung for 5 and a half years. I don't cook...at least not very well...so, the Early Bird Diner has become my 'home away from home'. "The Bird", as we regulars like to call it, has a large menu, great food and drinks, and really good, friendly service. I usually get their "Deuces Wild" breakfast... More

There's actually quite a bit to like about this place, especially if you're an American expatriate in Taichung looking to experience a traditional diner type atmosphere away from home. There's a nice atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly. Our waitress had quite good English. Service was quite good, and the menu selection is quite extensive. For most of us... More

I wanted to like this place. I've been there three times now, and every time I leave it feels like I'm wearing a lead suit. I really enjoy eating, but this is one of those places where you feel like you've settled for the best of all bad options. Like a school cafeteria lunch. Some people swear by this place,... More

As with most expat-run establishments in Taichung, the Early Bird Diner is disappointing. The owners have obviously tried their best but from the get-go it is clear that they do not have experience running a restaurant. True, there are few, if any, places offering "American-style" breakfast in Taichung, so if you are in the mood for fried eggs/bacon/hashbrowns or omelettes... More

Nothing really special here. The only thing that keeps us coming back is the western taste when Chinese/Taiwanese food gets old. You can get a decent meal for a reasonable price, but a lot of the food is on the heavy side. I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot, just don't expect to be blown away.

Have the Lumberjack Breakfast. Their pancakes are fantastic! It is a mix of the cultures. Their Wing Wednesday is not what you expect to find in Taichung. Expect hot ones! The service is typical Taiwan - you get your food when it is ready, not the whole table together. There are no heating lamps. The food is not pre-cooked so... More

I've been living abroad for about a year now and it was nice to eat at this American style diner. The food is pretty authentic! This is coming from a tough food critic, hahah It's just a bit pricey.... there were two of us and our bill was about $700 NT. So for a larger family it might not be... More

I've passed by the restaurant several times before, but was more or less taken by the restaurant facade. It reminded me of the road side diners of middle America. Firstly, I was overwhelmed with the vast items in its menu. From Breakfast to a variety of American styled sandwiches you may find in the US such as Denny's. I had... More
