A great Albany tradition

The quality of food and service at Jack's reflect the 100 year tradition of the place and its several generations of family ownership. I love the photos of early twentieth century Albany. The food is not cordon bleu but it is splendid enough for a formal dinner or an informal luncheon. The chef's... read more

It is truly like an old steak house. I think it has been there for a long time. Great steaks, oysters and mixed drinks. A good place for business or meeting an old college classmate.

I get the classic American appeal of Jack's. I was pleasantly surprised that they still cook well. A lot of restaurants like this rest on their laurels, service, and decor, while ignoring the fact that their food is sub par. Jack's still produces decent fare. I was impressed with the Steak Diane. The Crab Cakes were among the best I've... More

Although this place has been around for over 100 years, it has fallen into the hands of bad management. I had a terrible dinner there last week and emailed the owner and executive chef. They ignored me for over a week until I emailed them again. Salmon appeared to have been cooked on high heat for a half hour. Crabcakes... More

How wonderful it is that this Albany landmark restaurant participates in Albany Restaurant Week and that we were lucky to get a reservation for a Saturday night dinner. My husband and I each ordered one of the restaurant-week specials, as well as drinks and a soup, not part of the special. I feared our "special" might be skimpy, but it... More

I first went to Jack's only a half-century ago, but went often when I lived in the area. Still go occasionally when I'm in that neck of the wood. Not spectacular, but consistently good with service to match.

Jack's has been a downtown landmark since 1913 and it retains it's historical ambiance. Photos of Albany landmarks adorn the walls, booths are private and comfortable and the antique chandeliers add to the charm. Service is professional with out being stuffy or overbearing. Waitstaff are well informed on menu options and very helpful. Overall, our party enjoyed their dining choices,... More

Jack's has been around since 1913. It is an Albany staple but starting to show its wear. The sea food tower we ordered was supposed to have lobster. Basically it was just a single claw. Not near the quality or variety of Prime 677 just down the road. We ordered the "BAKED STUFFED COLOSSAL LOBSTER TAIL COMPOTE OF LOBSTER, SHRIMP... More

Certainly the steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. However, it arrived at our table and both my plate and my husband's plate of steak and baked potato were lukewarm at best. Since we brought another couple with us and since they made no complaint, we could not send it all back or complain. Our waiter was charming and attentive. It... More

I went to Jack's expecting to be wowed and was totally disappointed. The service was good, not exceptional, the appetizer was just okay and the crab cakes were not that great. I read the hype and was not impressed at all. Small portions with a large price.
