Jack's has been around since 1913. It is an Albany staple but starting to show its wear. The sea food tower we ordered was supposed to have lobster. Basically it was just a single claw. Not near the quality or variety of Prime 677 just down the road. We ordered the "BAKED STUFFED COLOSSAL LOBSTER TAIL COMPOTE OF LOBSTER, SHRIMP... More

Certainly the steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. However, it arrived at our table and both my plate and my husband's plate of steak and baked potato were lukewarm at best. Since we brought another couple with us and since they made no complaint, we could not send it all back or complain. Our waiter was charming and attentive. It... More

I went to Jack's expecting to be wowed and was totally disappointed. The service was good, not exceptional, the appetizer was just okay and the crab cakes were not that great. I read the hype and was not impressed at all. Small portions with a large price.

Had a most outstanding seafood chowder with plenty of shrimp and fish in it in with a wonderful texture and consistency. The featured salmon entree had very nice whipped potatoes and a vegetable medley of asparagus, red cabbage, and carrots. John provided outstanding service in every way from describing the menu items well to pacing the courses properly. Jack's Oyster House... More

Really what it says in the title. Service is exceptional, as in old school waiter service, not just college kid (Not that that's bad!). Food excellent. Cocktails ditto. Respectful, courteous, tasty, highly recommended. Been there 7-8 times and never had a problem.

Family tradition run by 3rd generation Cornell University Hotel Grad. If you are in Albany go there it is a great treat. Crab cakes still excellent.....

Have been to Jack's a number of times. My most recent visit was just as good as my first. Even their own house wine is excellent. Loved their oysters and clams. Service was great. Food not only tasted great but looked great - very artistic.

Jacks is the only survivor from the long-gone days when the downtown area was a thriving place to live and not just a 9-5 state government campus. It's well worth a visit to see how real privately owned restaurants used to do it, with black tie waiters, food and service held to a very high standard, personal attention from the... More
