Jack's has been riding the vanished trail of past glory for too long. The service is poor, food is overpriced and disappointing. An oyster house should not serve frozen fish, and if it's fresh it should taste it.

The server was very professional and knew the menu in and out. He was very attentive and refilled out our glasses without having to ask. Food was incredible. With one glass of wine and four entrees, bill came to $150 before the gratuity. I'd pay it again.

During my last trip to Albany NY, I adventured in to the city and got to dine at this Century Old Retaurant. It was a trip back to the past, where expresidents, politicians have passed in this emblematic place. Food was good, ordered seafood platter (Oysters, Pink clams, piece of lobster and shrimp)- and pasta. Worth a visit!

Ate twice at this Albany institution that appears to have lost its touch and depends on its rep instead of quality service. First, the food was excellent, and pricey (as expected) but both times, with different servers, we were served a more expensive option than what we ordered. Coincidence? In both cases, the bill was $15-$20 higher. Called to the... More

We have visited Jack's a number of times. We went for my birthday and the simple mention of it as we were seated later brought a piece of cake and a complimentary photo. A very nice touch. I love older establishments that have kept their feeling of antiquity. Jack's does this in spades. You walk in and feel like you... More

Four of us were there for Easter dinner. My steak was overcooked while another diner's was very rare. I was very disappointed in the .....you know, I really can't remember. I just remember that it was all bland and not cooked well and there was a sense that people thought it was good to be there because of its reputation... More

After forty years and a very positive experience that long ago, my wife and I were traveling in the Albany area. We decided to return to this restaurant remembering how we were treated when we were hippie/flower children. Being young and carefree, we took a drive from New York city. Three hours later, we found ourselves very, very hungry. We... More

This was the BEST place we ate in 2.5 weeks of traveling from South Dakota to New York! Try their seafood! The clam chowder is to die for!

Jack's is an old line seafood house that's been around for years. The interior has dark wood paneling and the menu virtually never changes. Because of its proximity to the State Capitol Building, it's a favorite haunt for State Assembly and Senate members for lunch or a late afternoon drink. One never knows whom you'll see there. Jack's knows how... More
