My 1st Vietnamese meal in Albany

We were on a business trip through Albany and one of the guys had frequented this restaurant many a time over the years. So we have it a try. I'm not a big South East Asian gourmet. I chose a sliced pork cooked over an open flame over a bed of white rice. I enjoyed it very much and it... read more

I have been a customer of Van's since it opened and like the food a lot. It is fresh and nicely flavored. What I have observed for a while now is that the service has been slipping. I needed take-out for a birthday celebration. The web site said they open at 11:30 for lunch. I assumed that meant people would... More

Pho is the best I've had anywhere. Vegetarian summer rolls outstanding. Central Ave in Albany NY is a dirty, depressing spot but Van's is a gem.

This spot has been a Vietnamese restaurant for many years with different owners; the current owners have been there for quite some time and their food is always good. I admit to mostly ordering pho there. They offer the tofu variety in veggie broth which is very welcome if you want a completely vegetarian dish. Their tofu "steak" is very... More

I found this little gem 5 years ago, we drive near an hour just to come here. I assure you, you have never seen such detail, such care, such quality, and then get handed a bill that's cheaper than fast-food... and this food is quickly delivered here too~!!!! Sincerely I'll tell you, EVERYONE I bring here, is usually FROM THE... More

The pho here is always great. I love that they have great consistency. My friends and I from southwestern vermont actually drove an hour just to get Van's on more than one occasion cause it's that good. Though, it does bother me that their pho dac biet doesn't come with tripe like traditional pho. They do have tripe as a... More

very nice place, but you almost need someone to tell you about it. Very good food, service was good but a little slow, nothing that ruined the meal. Nice tasting food and generous portions at reasonable prices. I love Adrian food and am very picky about what I consider good Asian food, I lived 5 years in Asia and traveled... More

We met friends at Van’s Vietnamese Restaurant last night on Central Avenue. We had not been there in about a year. The food was excellent, as it always is. We had ginger salmon, chicken and shrimp in a curry sauce, and grilled sliced beef with rice noodles. They were all excellent! The server was very nice and gave us good... More

Finding your way there at night can be a bit much as you go through too many blocks of boarded up houses, depending on which way you come in. We started with the Goi Cuon - Summer Rolls - with Shrimp - fresh and tasty with sweet dipping sauce. We then had Goi Cuon, which is basically chicken with sriracha... More

I've read rave reviews about this place and have heard great things from friends so you can imagine my disappointment when I tried it out and thought it was terrible! Our waiter was very friendly and sweet but the food was so so bad! For an appetizer we ordered Canh Ga Tom Chien (Fried Stuffed Chicken Wings) -- I took... More
