food is really standard. but in the menu, the tell a little history of the restaurant and it felt something.
Tip Top gives you great food (any Indonesian, but especially the rendang) with a view of the street and history. You will be, just for an instant, Indiana Jones as you sip on your jus terong belanda (with sugar water). Don't miss it, or you'll miss Medan.
This restaurant is a must to visit in Medan. It lies in old city area of Kesawan. My recomendation to try here are ice creams, side dishes, and cakes. Feel the old classic ambience, get in style, and enjoy your time and dish ;-)

The restaurant/cafe is nice but we were a bit disapointed with the ice coffee and ice cream we got. But we haven't tried the famous cakes. Might be nice with the live music each Sat and Wed night.
Good ice cream traditional taste, good place to just relax in night time, but be careful when ask the hotel to find taxi in the street because the taxi driver will ask whether we ask restaurant to call the taxi and if we say yes then the taxi will charge minimum order payment.
Opens from 8am till 11pm. Just across from Tjong A Fie's Mansion. Good place to stop and enjoy the old time atmosphere: while watch ing the locals double and triple park (seems they quite revere the cakes here) creating astounding traffic jams and noise. Chinese, Indonesian and European dishes. We had a lime juice, iced coffee, gado gado and a... More
