Cafe Wayan and Bakery Established in 1986 We are happy to have had so many nice guests come to enjoy our food for over 28 years. Cafe Wayan started as a small warung (a local food stall) where Ibu Wayan sold black rice pudding and coffee to the rice farmers on what has now become Monkey Forest Road. Tourist began walking down "the path" to the Monkey Forest and stopped by for a coffee, snacks or to buy peanuts for the monkeys. Ibu Wayans always love to cook as a child and soon the menu began to expand. Return friends to Ubud began helping with recipes of western dishes as long term visitors and residents sometimes miss their own food too. Ibu Wayan began traveling abroad and learned more western cooking with Chef Joe Schultz of India Joes's restaurant in Santa Cruz, California and also learned the art of Thai cuisine in Bangkok.

Great location and food

It looks quite small from the street but you should head into their beautiful backyard. We had the Nasi Campur and the Balinese Special together with a Mojito and Strawberry Lassi. We came up for the day on a motorbike from Sanur, so before we stopped here we had an hours drive through moving traffic and were well in need of an oasis. We found it at Cafe Wayan. The surroundings are a lovely place to sit, relax and eat. The atmosphere is friendly and the food is gorgeous. Very highly... More

Me and my wife went there on Sunday night. There was a traditional Balinese buffet for 175000rp per person. It looks good but we decided to try the regular menu. We had the crispy duck and was delicious! It's a bit dry but tender inside and yummy. We also order a pizza, it is a bit small but more than... More

I've eaten here on a previous trip and was excited to bring my husband in May. The staff is exceptional, the food delicious and great Mojitos!! The gardens are delightful and make it easy to spend a few hours just relaxing. I love the spring rolls and satay. My husband loved the chicken kievs....generous serves.

Generally, I have got into the habit of just reviewing the places that I have really enjoyed and keeping the negative reviews to myself for the others. But here I go with something a bit different: a slightly negative review. Before I do, I should start with a disclaimer. It is that I only visited the restaurant once and maybe... More

We decided to have our last lunch in Ubud at Cafe Wayan and we were so glad we did. Beautiful garden that seems to keep going and going and lovely private tables nestled throughout. The service was very friendly and our waiter Wayan July was extremely helpful and happy. We both ordered duck dishes, crispy and a curry and both... More

Thought we'd check this place out after reading some TA reviews & weren't disappointed. We ordered the Nasi Campur & Nasi Goreng, service was quick- thoroughly enjoyed our lunch in beautiful garden setting. Prices also very reasonable- too full to try dessert, if we weren't leaving Ubud the next day, would definitely come back again. Enjoy

I love this place so much. The garden is seemingly endless - have the waiter take you down the back among the greenery to sit on cushions on the floor in a raised pavilion for the real Cafe Wayan experience. Also make sure you read the story about its origins in the menu to really appreciate just what a special... More

It cant get more authentic, when in ubud a visit to cafe wayan is unnegotiable. The food is traditionally synced, cooked to the perfection of indonesian culture. We ate a lot of indonesian food on our trip but cafe wayan was the BESSST clearly. Everything was par excellence when it came to taste and presentation. However here is a must... More

Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff... Suggest you to visit it for the exotic garden. The food was ok, not the best in town but very good !
