Description: Cafe Wayan and Bakery Established in 1986 We are happy to have had so many nice guests come to enjoy our food for over 28 years. Cafe Wayan started as a small warung (a local food stall) where Ibu Wayan sold black rice pudding and coffee to the rice farmers on what has now become Monkey Forest Road. Tourist began walking down "the path" to the Monkey Forest and stopped by for a coffee, snacks or to buy peanuts for the monkeys. Ibu Wayans always love to cook as a child and soon the menu began to expand. Return friends to Ubud began helping with recipes of western dishes as long term visitors and residents sometimes miss their own food too. Ibu Wayan began traveling abroad and learned more western cooking with Chef Joe Schultz of India Joes's restaurant in Santa Cruz, California and also learned the art of Thai cuisine in Bangkok.

Wow! We popped in to Cafe Wayan late and very hungry as we had just watched a Kecak Fire Dance. We had heard the food was good but weren't sure what to expect. We started with the Indonesian spring rolls which were DELICIOUS! My husband and I (we are on our honeymoon) joked that we should have ordered more spring... More

Tonight we had a diner at cafe wayan. Beautiful atmosphere and friendly staff but bad food - greasy and not a lot of taste for Indonesian food.

I did the Cooking class because it had so many good rewievs. Unfortunately my experience was Really Bad. I arrived at 4:00 as planned. At 4:30 the Lady (Cook) welcomed me with the words that there must be a Mistake because Cooking classes are from 2 persons onwards and I am only one. I replied that I have booked, checked... More

Following the advice of others, I ventured in to what appeared to be a very humble establishment. What greeted me was far from this. A seemingly endless choice of small eating pavilions offering either pillow seating or tables & chairs. With thoughtful landscaping, each pavilion seemed to be isolated from the others offering privacy to all diners. An extensive menu... More

Recommended by another family at our hotel, Cafe Wayan was a delight to dine at. Friendly and attentive staff and a lovely garden hut booth to ourselves with candlelight certainly made for a nice ambience for the meal. The menu was extensive and caters well for western, Indonesian and Balianese tatses as well as vegetarians. The food was fresh and... More

Great choice for a romantic dinner. Attentive staff. Tiniest duck we had ever seen, but tasty nonetheless. Food was proper, the setting is wonderful. Ask for one of the private areas further in the back.

We took our family of six for dinner at Cafe Wayan and sat in one of the traditional Balinese huts. Even though it's on the busy Monkey Forest Street you don't hear any of that tucked away out the back. Its nicely lit at night and you feel a bit like you could be out in the jungle. The food... We had dinner here with our kids nearly 20 years ago while living in SE Asia. It was excellent then and is still excellent. Excellent food and superior setting. V. Good prices, too. Opinion: One thing that is noticeable about hotels and restaurants in locations such as Ubud - time and the climate can wreak havoc on the decor and... More

Nice location, the garden is suprisingly beautiful with nice tabels underneath pondoks and very privately located between flowers and small trees. The food tasted very good, especially the nasi campur is delicious and a large portion. Friendly staff.
