Description: Murni, the owner of the equally famous Murni's Houses and Tamarind Spa, opened Ubud's first real restaurant in 1974 and it remains first in the hearts of many people today. The menu is varied and delicious and you can enjoy your drinks and meals and surf the Web using the free WiFi on one of four levels overlooking the river. Level 1: When you enter Murni's Warung, the first thing you'll notice is the view of the greenery on the river's hillside. The steel cable in the foreground supports the bridge next door. On the way to your table, you'll walk past a display cabinet of cakes and pastries that you should take a look at -- just so you'll know how much room to save for dessert. The restaurant is decorated with art from Murni's collection, including the small carvings high on the walls. Level 2: The large statue of Ganesha, the Elephant God, that greets you in the Lounge Bar was commissioned in 1997 and completed in early 2002. He and Murni are about the same height. This is a great place to have cocktails or meet friends for a drink. You can also eat here. Level 3: We generally reserve this level for parties, wedding receptions and birthday parties or when the Warung is overflowing. It can seat about 50-60 people. Level 4: And finally you arrive just above the river. You'll enjoy the sound of flowing water with your candlelit dinner in the midst of exotic surroundings. Murni's Warung Shop is a good place to wander in while you are waiting for your meal. And enjoy our books, Forty Delicious Years and Secrets of Bali.

Have been to this restaurant before many years ago and on the inside nothing has changed. Still a nice view although a bit spoiled by an adjacent building site but that's where it ends. The food was below average, very bland and poorly presented by the annoying waitress. We asked for our mains to be brought out after the entree... More

We stopped here after a hike along the river. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was wonderful. It was a great place to stop, and have a relaxing meal next to the jungle and river. The menu has a lot of options, which was appreciated.

We didn't eat here, but had a few drinks and they were nice. Service was a bit lacking, but the view made up for it. Lovely setting - a terraced seating area overlooking the jungle. There appeared to be different seating area on different floors, but we stayed by the main entrance and it was nice.

Thank you for visiting. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. We have 3 more levels below the ground floor, and they get better, the more you go down. The lowest level is just above the river. I hope that you can come back and enjoy it. Murni More

I had some strawberry juices in here after walking in the nearby ridge. The juices were absolutely tasty, and really enjoyable in this beautiful restaurant. However i was rather surprised by the service. Not that it was technically bad but it was not friendly either. In particular, the waitress laughed when my girlfriend ask for the aforementioned strawberry juices, and... More

We had lunch here today and both of us were extremely disappointed. The Lumpia we shared for entree was not up to the standard we have eaten anywhere in Bali. The minced meat filling had a raw taste which totally put me off however my main course was worse. It was a supposedly Balinese chicken dish of 8 hour slow... More

Thank you for your comments, but I suspect that you don't know very much about traditional Balinese food, especially when you said Who needs to cook a chicken for 8 hours? Even in the West, most dishes benefit from a slow, gentle heat to really bring out the flavours. The slow cooking process allows the meat to absorb all the... More

My wife and I arrived at 9:15pm for a late dinner, and despite no one else being in the Warung, we were pleasantly greeted, and provided with great service. My wife and I always ask for recommendations from staff everywhere we go, and the staff took the time to explain each of the dishes and answered our questions. We ordered... More

Ha d a couple of dinners downstairs with crazy Nyoman looking after us. The food was awesome as always. Had morning tea upstairs - still the best strawberry juice in Bali. Afternoon time spent in the lounge bar. What's not to love. We'll be back.

All the flavors and textures at lunch were the best that Bali has to offer. Murni's Warung is one the most beautiful and delicious restaurants I visited in all of Bali. Murni herself is warm, welcoming and easy to talk with about any topic. Her staff is extraordinarily professional an adept at handling an exhausted traveler. Inside the restaurant, I... More
