Description: Murni, the owner of the equally famous Murni's Houses and Tamarind Spa...
Murni, the owner of the equally famous Murni's Houses and Tamarind Spa, opened Ubud's first real restaurant in 1974 and it remains first in the hearts of many people today. The menu is varied and delicious and you can enjoy your drinks and meals and surf the Web using the free WiFi on one of four levels overlooking the river. Level 1: When you enter Murni's Warung, the first thing you'll notice is the view of the greenery on the river's hillside. The steel cable in the foreground supports the bridge next door. On the way to your table, you'll walk past a display cabinet of cakes and pastries that you should take a look at -- just so you'll know how much room to save for dessert. The restaurant is decorated with art from Murni's collection, including the small carvings high on the walls. Level 2: The large statue of Ganesha, the Elephant God, that greets you in the Lounge Bar was commissioned in 1997 and completed in early 2002. He and Murni are about the same height. This is a great place to have cocktails or meet friends for a drink. You can also eat here. Level 3: We generally reserve this level for parties, wedding receptions and birthday parties or when the Warung is overflowing. It can seat about 50-60 people. Level 4: And finally you arrive just above the river. You'll enjoy the sound of flowing water with your candlelit dinner in the midst of exotic surroundings. Murni's Warung Shop is a good place to wander in while you are waiting for your meal. And enjoy our books, Forty Delicious Years and Secrets of Bali.

Very good and cheap local food

Traditional local Indonesian food such as Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng. As starter we had noodle soup which tasted good and a large portion. We also had spring roles, but the size was disappointing - good taste though. The tenderloin steak with mashed potatoes was tastefull and the rice dishes (can´t... read more

An old favourite, usually visiting the bar at level 2 down. We were lucky to be able to have the table for two on the bar level, overlooking the river with a lovely cooling breeze on a warm evening. Komang, the barman and waiter was very attentive as usual. We shared a serve of the chicken sates, the presentation of... More

Thank you for visiting. I'm very glad that the food was very good and cheap. We have two sizes of spring rolls - ordinary, fairly large size and mini spring rolls. It sounds like you ordered the mini spring rolls. Both are equally delicious. I hope you have a great time in Bali. Murni More

You wouldn't know it was there unless you go looking - not much from the front but so worth it. Make sure you go right downstairs to sit. Its on a ravine and you can hear the water rushing by as you are dining. The apple pie and icecream was excellent - just like your Mum makes

We choose to eat here for my husbands birthday and are glad we did. The staff made every thing easy and even set up a time to test samples of cake for his birthday cake. We had drinks on the top level and then went down to a lower level that over looked a river to eat dinner. The places... More

First of all I would like to thank you very much for visiting us over so many years and I'm delighted that you like the food, the atmosphere and the prices. I am sorry about what happened. I'm afraid that we must obey the law in Bali which very clearly prohibits smoking in restaurants. I'm sure that our waitress did... More

Went as a couple for dinner and were not disappointed. Food full of flavour and a full plate. You have to have the black rice pudding - great. There are different levels for you to have meals and also a small bar area. Great staff.

I'm delighted that the food was great and that you recommend the black rice pudding. It is a very Balinese dish that we often have for breakfast as well as being a dessert. I hope you can come back and try some more dishes. Murni More

Went for dinner, asked to be seated at the lowest level, no regrets at all. Great location close to the river. Had various courses, all were great. Good service, lots of humour among the staff. Good value for money. Was offered transport, but needed to walk off the dinner, beers, Bali Kopi and cheesecake. Will come back.

Murni's is my favorite place for "me time" after work, especially at its lowest floor which located closest to the river. Its so quiet and relaxing. Considering this restaurant is one of the oldest in Ubud, the service, the building, the taste are all good. I recommend this resto for those who wants to escape from hustle and bustle.

The restaurant is in a convenient location. It has 3 floors. On the ground floor there is a beautiful store with local products and antiques. The food was delicious: both Indonesian and Western dishes. The staff is lovely. They always approached us with a smile. We ordered a minestrone and it was like a real Italian minestrone.
