Coming here feels like leaving Bali and going somewhere else. Always appreciate the good homestyle Japanese food with good service. Lunchtimes are quiet and food comes quickly. Usually just you and some Japanese families.

My partner and I always visit Kagemusha when in Ubud. Love the food, off the beaten track, but the service is verging on rude. No smiles, just feel that they wanted our money and then to get us out as fast as possible, this visit was just unwelcoming! Dont know if we will be back.

A real hidden gem... head down a little lane and you can pretend you're in Japan as soon as you step into Kagemusha. The little restaurant plays Japanese music, the guests are Japanese, the place is run by a lovely Japanese lady who has taught her Balinese staff a little Japanese language. THE FOOD... oh my yumminess. I highly recommend... More

Hidden away behind the main shops but do yourself a favour if you like Japanese food and want something different from Sushi. it has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and owner in the kitchen cooking away madly.. the food is great and not expensive.

The food was simple and light, but delicious at same time. It was suited called home cooking. It didn't taste like a big restaurant cooking. I'm not sure if we can called it original Japanese cooking, since I've never been to Japan. We ordered tonkatsu, chciken teriyaki and fried squid, all were good. But prepare with mozzies, if you have... More

Kagemusha is a small gem buried away down a small road off Jl Hanoman, but it was one of the top finds of our trip! We went again and again (as some in our party had an aversion to spices), and the food was excellent throughout their selection. I'm quite sure the authenticity of the food can be vouched for... Always loved this restaurant. Simple well done Japanese food. My only complaint is the owner has many cats that she doesn't take care of and lets breed over and over. I love animals and never mind the cats being around, however if there is a guest who doesn't take kindly to all the cats they get whacked with a sapu... More

I love Japanese food in the UK, but guess I had never really tried authentic Japanese cooking til I went to Kagemusha. I had a noodle soup which was lovely and light, with a huge amount of noodles - they do half portions so in hindsight maybe that would have been a good idea! My partners Katsu curry was also... More

I've been coming back to Kagemusha since my first dining experience there in 2007. I have taken countless friends and families there to enjoy some of the best, unpretentious, delicious home-cooking in town. The place never disappoints. If you are particularly fussy about service, this isn't the place for you. I know all of the servers and they know me... More
