Not typical Japanese

Spent an evening there during our visit to Ubud last December. Not impressive. Tempura was not light and crunchy but rather soaked in a thick batter. Sushi roll done with no expertise. The hot pot, which should be served with a clear strong broth was served just with boiling water - no taste, and... read more

Loved the place. Spacious, high ceilings, garden outlook, clean and the food was yummy! They gave delicious complimentary starters. Presentation was lovely.

We went based on a friend's recommendation and loved this restaurant. Beautiful decor overlooking a Japanese garden, a complete oasis from the street. We felt special straight away. The food was all extremely delicious and exquisitely presented. We shared a number of different dishes and the timing of service was impeccable. And the staff were very attentive. Highly recommended, thanks... More

The very first time I ate lunch at Minami, (which is now considered by many to be the very best Japanese restaurant on the whole island of Bali and maybe in the wider global horizon), I was immediately transported to another island, this time to where Osaka is.The restaurant is owned and managed by a Japanese family who attend to... After days eating Indonesian food, we wanted a bit of change and decided to have Japanese at Minami. We were very pleasantly surprised. The seating area of the restaurant faces a lovely tranquil courtyard which was a very nice sitting on a rainy afternoon. Service was good and prompt. The food was great. I had what was in my view... My last meal in Ubud and Bali and Indonesia itself was at Minami (fitting as Japan is the destination of my next major trip) and it was a great choice. Aside from the entrance, there are none of the usual signs that you are at a Japanese restaurant-no tatami floors, lanterns etc but rather a bright and airy space facing... More

My wife and I are always drawn to Japanese restaurants and food. About half a kilometre west of the Campuhan Bridge. Minami offers a relaxed garden dining area. While the food may not be authentic in the strict sense, the gyoza entreat was better than experienced in some places. Good value for money, friendly staff and clean facilities, (yes, one... More

We haven't visited many Japanese restaurants but thought we would like to try one again. I had literally stumbled upon Minami when looking at art galleries and shops opposite our hotel. Choosing one of the set menus made life easier for the novice. All the courses were beautifully presented and a delight to the taste-buds. The staff were very attentive... More
