When glorious days are over...

I think a couple years ago it was a great place to stay. Location is good, not too far from center, but still away from crazy traffic. The cottages and the swimming pool are surrounded by trees. This is the worst place I have ever stayed!!! I booked the Batavia room. Walls were paper thin (made of woven reeds), mattress was damp, bedding grotty, no proper shower, water cold.

So much about Ubud has changed for the modern times that it was a pleasure to return after 25 years and find one place that had not. Mata Hari is still as quaint, quiet, filled with solitude, flowers, a beautiful "Infinity" pool, outstanding, friendly staff, and you get a for your money. Bali Kopi here is the best.

We saw in lonely planet that this place does good afternoon tea and we thought we'd stay here for a few days. It was an awful hotel and we never saw anybody having afternoon tea. In fact, they don't seem to have a proper kitchen so I have no idea where lonely planet got this idea from
