Having spent sometime in Italy and having been mentored and introduced to Italian cooking by no less than my Italian friend's mom, I tend to be very keen with eating Italian food elsewhere for two reasons: first, there are a lot of Italian restaurants which don't really understand Italian cooking (like putting cheese on seafood pasta), or to prevent disappointment,... I generally prefer to stick with the local cuisine of the country I'm visiting but this restaurant is not to be missed if you're in Sanur! Amazing food, prompt service and pretty effective cocktails :-) A pet hate of mine with Bali is people smoking in restaurants. It's as if smokers rediscover the novelty and really go to town with... We loved this place. Very popular, a lot of people make reservations however we were lucky to get a table straight away (when we left we noticed people sitting at the bar waiting for tables). We shared garlic bread and pizza. The garlic bread wasn't the best however the pizza was great. The service was very slick and the atmosphere... More

I could write a review on the bread alone! What a great restaurant. All 8 of our group had different entree's and mains and we were all gushing with praise. Sublime pastas, seriously morish pizzas, veal and steak just melted in the mouth, seafood was fresh and delicious - seriously, we couldn't say enough about this place.

Have been here many times and always enjoy food and ambience. This trip visited 3 times, one was very odd. One of our group ordered Creme Brulee, it arrived HOT! The dish was too hot to touch!! The waitress assured us this and Choc souffle were always served this way!! As I had been the week before and eaten it... More

After a very disappointing meal at Jamie's Italian in Perth my recommendation is he should visit Massimo and learn how to cook real Italian. From the starters of crostini and arancini balls to spaghetti vongole and baked penne finishing with panna cotta we couldn't fault the meal it was absolutely superb. We will return!

Normally when I'm traveling in Asian countries I like to eat the local food, specially in Indonesia and Bali where the local kitchen is really delicious. But Massimo in Bali Sanur is an outstanding example for the top Italian dish outside Italy. All the pizza are baked in the traditional dome oven on open fire and taste more than delicious.... More

The only problem about this place is that we discovered it on our last night in Sanur, so could only eat there once! Outside of Italy, this is the best traditional Italian food we have had anywhere, and the prices are so reasonable it's crazy!
