Cool cafe, very western but delicious tuna pasta salad and try the 'from Oreo with luv' drink / desert. Slightly higher prices but yummy, cold spot to chill out on comfy chairs, and all to a good cause. All found cleaned in purified water and toilet even has dettol for super clean hands.
Good place for a decent coffee with a lovely shop selling a good selection of handicrafts. Free wifi as well. Service a little slow on our visit.
Went here and had a few drinks to get out from the searing heat. The drinks were good, but even greater knowing that it was helping the community. They have many hand crafts and souvenirs for sale which are all made by the local community and the proceedings going towards helping the need. They also have free wifi.
We discovered this place on our last day in Varanasi. I will certainly come back next time I am there. The place was nice and quiet. This fair trade cafe is awesome, and there aren't enough cafes like this in India! The chai was delicious and the atmosphere very comfortable and welcoming. The products in the store are reasonably priced and beautiful, and it's great to know you're supporting a good cause. It's out of the main tourist area, which can be good or bad depending...

Not only do these folks have great coffee and food, they are incredibly accommodating. On a day the shop was closed, the owner travelled 10 km to unlock the store and return the bag I had left the day before. It is worth a visit just for the coffee, and the work they do makes it all the better.
Great atmosphere, great food. The coffee is delicious! It can be so hard to find a good cup of coffee in India. The shop is really interesting too and going toward a great cause! Defiantly worth a visit.
I, like many others, went to the Open Hand very often while I was a month in Varanasi. The food was good, and they clearly understand what 'western' tourists need in the food. The shop was also great and 'fair-trade' which felt good. While the waiters sometimes did not notice someone had sat down, once they did, the service was...

Prices a little high but if it goes to a good cause ...... Good service and great coffee. Small terrace with view over street close to the start of the ghats.
