On the outset . It would appear as a middle class hotel. . however the rumor goes that the owner's wife does the cooking and food control. So it does taste like home food. Don't try to enter the kitchen as I warn you might want to stay away from this place. But I have been there a hundred times... More

If you are looking for authentic Madurai cuisines (Chettinad style), then, Amma Mess is the answer. Forget ambience. Luckily it is air conditioned.The local crowd enjoy the biryani the most which is very different to Hyderabadi or Awadhi (Lucknow) biryani. Meat balls just great. Place is always crowded with people. Its hard to get table in the evening especially. Real Madurai taste. Sea food were good. Crab was nice. Madurai parota and spl gravy was good. Should give it a try.

Mutton balls are awesome, give it a try. Little expensive than we thought but had a sumptuous meal. Had a good variety of sea food. Fish fry was good too.

its a must visit place for all ppl travelling to madurai. try their curry dosa and chicken biriyani. its a bit expensive, but its worth every penny.

Make sure you tats the Uzhrandai ( Fried balls of chicken/ brain etc) . Everything that they offer is a must try. Careful with your bill though , it can shoot up above the skies.

we went this hotel for a lunch & ordered many famed varieties,but it tastes not unique as hyped,there are many hotels we think in madurai has same or more good tasty non veg food,and lot cheaper than amma mess,for the standard they maintained this hotel price is much much costlier...

This hotel offers one of the best non veg food in the town which is also evident from the kind of endorsement this hotel has got from celebrities

I went there with one of my friend, Wow! Too many varieties of non veg items, We order for prawn Biriyani, crab masala (shell less), nalli manja omelet (bone marrow), pallipalayam chicken (too hot). good taste, good service though little expensive no regrets when paying.

Very expensive and the food taste ok..quantity is very less for the price..for a non-veg meals its a good place other than that its not worth it..in mutton chukka they add chicken liver ..cheaters
