"Via Mare" is another one of those restaurants that is a must-visit at least once while I'm in Avalon. Over the past twenty-plus years,I've taken many different friends and relatives and we've all been happy and enjoyed ourselves. The food is more than just red-gravy Italian but it's still traditional, classic. The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is bustling but homey.... More

My girlfriend and I had dinner at Via Mare on August 31st. I love great Italian food but unfortunately the food at Via Mare was only mediocre. The salad was boring and the entrees were skimpy yet they prices for everything on the menu rivaled good New York restaurants. Clearly a place with a captive tourist crowd.

Vito and Julia are awesome! They treat you like family Everytime my family and I go there they are always very kind. There clam casino, jumbo lump crabmeat with salmon, linguine with clams and shrimp in a white wine sauce soo delicious. My kids love the penne in rosa sauce. End the night with a nice lemon sorbet or a... More

This restaurant is a little hidden gem in Avalon! Great authentic italian food! My family absolutely loves this restaurant we have been going here for 20 years! And every year it gets better. We have become so close with Julia and Vito (owners and chief). They have always made us feel like home and this is why we make it... More

The pasta dishes are flavorful and fairly priced. The blackboard specials are often very good, but priced on the high side. The staff is very efficient and friendly. We prefer Via Mare in the off-season, when many of the other Avalon and Stone Harbor restaurants are closed. There are better choices in-season, but getting a table at one can be... More

Can't say this place is to be recommended. The food is not very flavorful and not worth the trip. Average Italian but pricey for what it is.

This is your prototypical vision of a family style Italian restaurant with the obits of owners and famous locals hanging from the waiting room walls. The food was well executed although the bread could have been better with crustier more robust bodied choices. Everyone was pleased with their entrees and this is a staple choice when down at the shore.

We were very disappointed with the owner's attitude and the pasta was cold. We had an argument. We paid the $80.00 bill left the food and left with no resolution. Don't go. McDonald's is better

We always love going here for great Italian food. We grab a few bottles of wine & some friends and enjoy the great dining experience. The staff is always friendly and Chef Mario always cooks the best Veal I've ever had.
