Solid New York Italian-american

This ain't your nouveau yuppie Northern Italian joint with foamed catsup. it is basic 2nd or third generation Italo-American red sauce/gravy. They might even use a little garlic, but you can't be sure. Don't set your sights too high and you won't be disappointed. My wife "loved" her ravioli last... read more

My family and I have been coming down to the shore for 15 years and always makes sure to eat at via mare. Julia and Vito the owners right from Italy who speak broken English and visit Italy almost once a year, always make sure we feel right at home. The food is delicious you cant go wrong with the... Good quality Italian food. A great place to go for a good meal while on vacation in Avalon. The prices will not blow your vacation budget either.

Good family type classic Italian place. BYOB. Casual. Parking is the only issue in season. Local place that we take for granted.

This place has been in business for 30+ years and consistently delivers a great product for a fair price. We go here 10+ times a year and never get tired of coming back!!

Wonderful, truly authentic Italian. Having grown up with Italian friends and the tradition of Sunday dinners, I have high expectations. I was not disappointed. Be sure to bring your own wine and arrive hungry!

"Via Mare" is another one of those restaurants that is a must-visit at least once while I'm in Avalon. Over the past twenty-plus years,I've taken many different friends and relatives and we've all been happy and enjoyed ourselves. The food is more than just red-gravy Italian but it's still traditional, classic. The prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is bustling but homey.... More

My girlfriend and I had dinner at Via Mare on August 31st. I love great Italian food but unfortunately the food at Via Mare was only mediocre. The salad was boring and the entrees were skimpy yet they prices for everything on the menu rivaled good New York restaurants. Clearly a place with a captive tourist crowd.
