Great ambiance for couples...not for a group of guys

The restaurant is located in the old Santa Clara convent built in 1621, now; the fashionable Sofitel Santa Clara Hotel. If you access the restaurant through hotel's main entrance, you will walk across the beautiful tropical garden (cloister). The restaurant offers excellent food and a very good winery selection $$$$. You can also order wine by the glass. I had... More

First be sure to check out the free wine tasting every Wednesday and then sit and have a meal. The food is really good but pairing it with the right wine makes it even better. They have a reasonable selection of wines by the glass.

A place in every guidebook...I suppose one could go for a quick drink to take in the over-priced atmosphere, but really, there are so many better choices in a town bursting at the seams with new and innovative food. They are in a rut food wise...and you will pay dearly for that.

We had a romantic dinner in the garden near the well. The maitre' d was superb in working a table for us and the waite staff couldn't have been better. Also, you will have to look very hard to find better gourmet food in a better atmosphere. We loved it!

Just how badly can you mess up dinner for two? The evening started off very well, with quality cocktails in a stunning location and what initially appeared to be professional, if somewhat leisurely, service (we were happy soaking up our surroundings). The starter of fish of the day tartare was excellent. From then on everything went rapidly downhill. To make... More

I have been many times at Hotel Santa Clara and have been both to its great bar and the regular restaurant, but never dined at 1621. Not an inexpensive restaurant, but worth every dime for a special occasion. It provides the most special and rare setting for a truly unforgettable evening and meal! Incredible wine selection, spectacular food, outstanding staff,... More

We had a wonderful dinner with a petit pois and mint gazpacho, a delicious piquillo peppers risotto with sautéed artichauts and a pastry of L' Opera. The atmosphere was great, though the service a little slow, but we were not in a hurry. I recommend this restaurant if you come to Cartagena

We stumbled on this restaurant by accident. Walking at night in old town Cartagena we saw a bar in a big plain building. Little did we knew that it was the bar entrance to Sofitel Santa Clara. Upon entering we decided to have coffee and proceeded to the beautiful interior of the hotel. After coffee in the courtyard we asked... More
