Description: Chef Daniel Castaño of Bogota’s Emilia Romagna restaurant brings his authentic Italian coastal cuisine to VERA, a 50-seat restaurant and lounge set within The Tcherassi Hotel’s historic colonial mansion and interior lush garden. Indoors, the restored, original 250 year old stone wall stretches from the imported Australian floor up to the distinuished wood ceiling and beams made from rescued Colombian Guayacan and Ceiba. Modern mirrors adorn the backlit wall in a unique contrast that reflects the activity throughout the space and brings the outside in with vivid reflections of the lush garden waiting outside. A long white banquette runs along the entirety of the indoor/outdoor space providing guests a front row seat to Cartagena’s best new restaurant. As the mansion’s stone wall extends outwards, dramatic archways provide diners a perfect framwork to sit and enjoy the flowing water features and vertical garden consisting of over 3000 local plants that forms the mansion’s interior gardenChef Castaño indulges guests with dishes such as Risotto Pescatore (Arborio rice, cooked with a compound butter of shallots, roasted garlic, and basil served with clams, mussels, shrimp, and squid) and Pollo al Peppe (brined and seared breast of chicken crusted with black pepper, served with confit thighs, and a date, water cress, and macadamia salad), among other house specialties.

If you love Italian food, this is the place to go in Cartagena. We loved the everything we order, appetizer, pasta, lobster etc. and the service and the atmosphere were excellent!

Our friends ate here with us for lunch and loved the octopus. We tried many different appetizers and entrees, all were very good as well. If you love Italian food in a very hip atmosphere, this is the place to go in Cartagena.

But the rest of my group did not. Something not discussable is the interior of this place which is great. Had lunch here, quite relaxed atmosphere, although in the middle of the city. Price level is above average.

Stopped here for lunch after having given up on beach plans for the day, and after a long walk under the sun. Had the best meal in Cartagena, definitely the best quality/price balance, even if not cheap. Loved the cocktail, loved the salad, very special, loved the octopus and the pasta, loved the decor, and loved the service. It made... More

one of the best carpaccios I've ever had - paper thin slices of tuna with great olive oil, teeny mustard sides and flash fried capers. Incredible. It was so good we went back a second time. Other carpaccios and pastas were very good. Entrees (seems to happen a lot in Cartagena) were not as good as starters - trying a... More

I ate dinner in this lovely upscale Italian restaurant located in the Old City section of Cartagena. The star of the evening was the restaurant itself. You walk into a spectacular open courtyard with a high wall of tropical greenery. Next to the wall is a beautiful reflecting pool with a lighted tree in it. Look towards the back of... More

Upon a suggestion from the Sofitel Santa Clara, we ate at Vera the first night we arrived in Cartagena when looking for a romantic dinner spot. Vera is very modern and 'cool' but with a friendly vibe. The italian food was delicious and upscale. Friendly staff made the entire meal perfect.

Take a moment to walk around the bar and restaurant area to enjoy the contemporary decor. Lunch in the small, glass enclosed, air conditioned dining room was a nice respite from the heat. The pasta was good but not spectacular. I do recommend trying the deserts - we loved what he chef chose for us.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. VERA and the Tcherassi Hotel are both quite special indeed but we also want them to be spectacular. It sounds like for the most part you had a lovely dining experience but there was room for a bit of improvement. We take that to heart and will try to do... More

Friends of ours mentioned how wonderful this place was and that we had to eat here during our stay in Cartagena. The food was good, not great, but good. However for the price ( dinner for 4 with four drinks and wine was $400) you pay the staff should know what they are doing. The waiter comes to the table... More

Thank you for your honest feedback. I sincerely apologize that your VERA dining experience was less than perfect. The staff will be spoken to immediately and reminded about the door to the dining room / garden so guests eating indoors can enjoy the maximum AC. Service is paramount and your feedback is appreciated. More
