Description: The Bookworm Suzhou is at once café, bookstore, restaurant, library, bar...
The Bookworm Suzhou is at once café, bookstore, restaurant, library, bar, comedy club, and live music venue; truly a central cultural hub of the great city of Suzhou, and one of the most classic expat-operated venues in town.Located just off the famous ShiQuanJie street downtown (just by the PingQiaoZhiJie intersection), it plays host to delicious foods, drinks, and activities both local and from around the world. Head down anytime, be it for a proper cup of coffee and a sandwich, a cold beer and some laughs, a bit of sun out on the patio, or to check out one of the many cool weekly events that keep this cultural heart beating.

Still a nice hangout, but going downhill a little

This is a very friendly place, with a range of activities organised, from a book club and annual literary festival to (very good) quiz nights and free performances by local and expat musicians. Even when nothing special is going on, it's a nice place to relax. The food has always been... read more

This is a very friendly place, with a range of activities organised, from a book club and annual literary festival to (very good) quiz nights and free performances by local and expat musicians. Even when nothing special is going on, it's a nice place to relax. The food has always been inconsistent, but overall is not bad at all, and... More

I visited this cafe/bookshop some years ago, and was delighted to find that it had changed very little. It is, perhaps, a little difficult to locate, despite the address and map given on their website, but once found, it is a haven from the world. Thousands of books of all kinds, some for sale, and some for browsing or borrowing... More

Great little spot in Old Town Suzhou, but not in the thick of things so as to get stuck in gnarled traffic. It has a rustic, well worn feel, with books tucked in every nook and cranny. The outdoor patio area is basically charming, although so many smokers just about ruined it for me. On any given day you might... More

The Bookworm is a great place to take a break from the hectic Suzhou life and relax amongst ex-pats. It has decent food, but there are always activities for you to meet other people and quiet places if you just want a solo evening reading and enjoying a beer or coffee.

The food was delicious! We ordered Western food which was wonderfully prepared, and delivered with excellent friendly service. The wine is delicious and the atmosphere is really lovely

Lovely staff, great menu full of Western food which was so refreshing after only eating Chinese food for a while. Lots of events going on throughout the week like a pub quiz and an open mic night so there are opportunities to meet people and have a good time!

The Bookworm in Suzhou China is a great place to make your second home. I lived/worked in Suzhou for 18 months and the Bookworm became my living room. It has just the right mix of cafe + bookshop + restaurant + bar. The menu is not fancy but also not expensive. And if you are a foreigner in need of... More

This place is like they call it themselves 'a home away from home'. It is cozy and has good food, although the winner of the restaurant of the year 2013 might be a bit over exacurated (or it means Suzhou doesn't have any other decent places). And to be honest in the 2 days I spent in Suzhou I only... More

We had lunch at The Bookworm, and it was ok. I wasn't impressed with the food, but the atmosphere was quite enjoyable. There are probably better times to visit where the crowd is better or there is entertainment of the sorts. Hoards and Hoards of books ranging from Idiot's guides to travel guides to classics. There were some children running... More
