We had dinner here after strolling along Shantang Street. The restaurant is cozy but staff were not so attentive although there were not many people on a Friday evening. According to our local Chinese friend, Suzhou Cuisine tends to be sweet thus one or two dishes were not so acceptable to us. Other than that, the cold starter and hot... More

When showing friends around Suzhou I usually arrive at Shantangjie in time for lunch. The Songhelou provides traditional food with an Attempt at a Suzhou atmosphere. The menu accords to traditional Huaiyang style so it is fit for introducing guests to the culinary delights of Jiangnan food. The main problem is that the restaurant is a remnant of the old... More

We had a great meal here - pork, mushrooms, noodles, etc. Pleasant space and decent service (not sure they speak English but we had a guide). Bought some moon cakes on the way out, which we just ate this week and were delicious.

As European I cannot speak any Chinese. Fortunately the menu' was translated but there was no sign the food was going to be super cold almost frozen!! Ordered some beef which came super cold, some mushroom and carrots stuff which was horribly cold and then the taste was bad. The prawn dish was basically prawn from the freezer with ice!... More

In the main shopping area, there isn't much sign outside that this building contains a huge, ancient and excellent restaurant. You can't book, but we only waited about 10 minutes on a busy Sunday. No English is spoken but they have a good and extensive picture menu. Delicious pork with mushrooms, dumplings, lily bulbs, fish etc.

This 200 years old restaurant is conveniently located near Shantang street. We had the mandarin fish, stewed pork with soy sauce and soup. The food was really excellent. Don't leave suzhou without eating here

The most famous Chinese cuisine dish of Suzhou is the squirrel mandarin fish, and the place to have it is the Song He Lou restaurant. We booked a private room upstairs for lunch and we had a feast. Service was excellent as was the food. This is a truly Chinese restaurant so English is very limited, but thankfully, we went... More

This restaurant is on the Shantang St., right next to the boat ride ticket office. It's really delicious, I would recommend the fried dumplings, which are the steamed dumplings with broth, but they have a very nice sesame seed crust which really made them stand out. It is a bit pricey (compared to most of the food in China), but... More

The restaurant is situated in Shantang Street, where it has heavy traffic of people walking up and down the street. I had meals there, sitting by the window. It was nice, just eating and people watching. The ambience of the restaurant is pleasant. I like the food here. Most of them are truly cooked well. This is definitely a restaurant... More
