Expensive but really good food

I'd have to say the best meal i've had in Douala to date. I'm still haunted by the Moelleux au chocolat (molten chocolate lava cake). There was a lot of options on the plat du jour (special) and the entire meal was excellent, not counting my boss trying fresh, raw oysters for the first time and... read more

The food is okay, and excellent wine choice The owner is very friendly, so are the staff. In total, we were there 10 times in 2 years. From my point of view, the resturant is over-rated, because the food quality does often nor keep up with the price. But in general, fish is excellent, and probably, the better choice than... More

We were a group of 10 for a business dinner. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was okay on a global standard, but good for Douala. Wine list was not extensive, but several worthwhile French white and red selections.

The restaurant is really good and therefore very expensive. The food is fresh, well prepared and well presented. It's definitely a treat worth getting if it falls within your budget

...L'Ovalie is most refreshing. Located in quartier Bonapriso, L'Ovalie has a solid menu, and a most attentive staff. The wine selection is good -- not great -- favoring Bordeaux, but it has a well-stocked bar, more so than other Douala establishments. The food is always good. Again, not great, but the aim of the restaurant seems to be "adventure within... More

As always a culinary delight with wonderful service by the friendly staff, very friendly and informative chef/patron. A delight in Douala, do not listen when people say it is expensive, you pay for what you get and can eat eat with wine for less than 50,000 CFA per head which is in line with European restaurants of this standard.

I have already eaten here twice and have enjoyed all the dishes I've had. The Owner/chef is attentive and ready to suggest and advise. The presentation of the dishes is that of a top quality restaurant in France. he uses many local ingredients and is not afraid to push the boat out sometimes - such as his 'Pulp fiction' burger... We eat here quite a bit and enjoy our visits. Extensive menu and daily specials, which are read out to you as you have an aperitif (or at the table if you skip the drink). When it's good, it can be excellent, but sometimes it really does miss, which is a shame. The staff are good and the restaurant is... More

If you're looking to eat out in Douala and make believe you're in Europe, go to L'Ovalie. Running for 11 years, its owner has managed to establish a pleasant, French fine dining venue that will satisfy.
