Too bad but it is now a TexMex. First time Allentown is without a German Food in Fifty years. Closed sometime in November of 2013.

They need to hire people that actually know what they are doing. It felt like we were invisible. After 45 minutes the server came over to tell us she was checking on our food..I replied we never even got our soup or salad. She seemed surprised. The restaurant is very small and we were seated almost on top of another... More

What a pleasant dining experience. We decided to try this charming little restaurant after learning of its existence in our local newspaper's weekly food section, followed by reading the reviews on your site. The food was excellent and my husband and I felt like we were back in Germany. He had the Sauerbraten and I had the Schnitzel of the... More

The little Village of Allentown has scored big with The Alps Bistro. I have the good luck to be close so I have enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner and special events-Mother's Day-here. The food is superb. The breakfast smoked salmon and other smoked fish is from Duck Trap in Maine, the kielbasi from a small butcher in Newark, the baked french... More

We decided to go to this restaurant because of the great reviews, location and just to try something "different". I don't know whether we just caught them on a bad night, but it was horrible. The waitress was not friendly AT ALL... She seemed to be annoyed when we asked for water, which was never put on the table. Our... More

This locale has struggled for years as a cafe and tea shop in downtown Allentown, but has been open for a while now as The Alps Bistro serving German/Austrian-style fare. I stopped by for breakfast the other day while shopping in town. I ordered the scrambled egg croissant with smoked ham, which was fresh and tasty. It was accompanied by... More

We picked Allentown as a place to stop for lunch to break up a drive from NY to west of Philly, and chose The Alps Bistro based on the TA reviews. We were pleased with the choice. Allentown turns out to be a charming old town; according to our hostess, it was a stop on the Underground Railroad, and Benjamin... More

Since our dinner guests wanted German food, we opted to trek to the Alps Bistro in Allentown NJ. We ordered a combination of snitchel, pork chops, and salmon. The snitchel was made with chicken and was excellent. The red cabbage was somewhat bland. The guest who ordered the pork chops was amazed by the amount of food on the plate.... More

We were happy to learn that a German restaurant was fairly close to were we live. Heeding other reviews, we made a reservation for a Friday night dinner with friends. Although having only seven tables, at 6 PM it was not busy and the one waitress on the floor was attentive to our needs. My wife thought her sauerbraten was... More
