Family Style Dining Like it Used To Be

Our family had dinner after seeing the show at the Lyceum. The dining was family style and the food was good. Including the desserts! Our server Josh was wonderful and kept the food coming!

Had a wonderful lunch here on a recent weekend in Arrow Rock. All the staff was incredibly friendly, facilities were clean and service was prompt. The lunch menu was limited in choices, but all 4 in our group were very pleased with our choices. If/when we are back in the area we will definitely stop back by.

I loved eating here. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. Their website claims "The tavern is the oldest continuously serving restaurant west of the Mississippi River with 180 years of continuous service to the public." We were there on a night they served all you can eat fried chicken and ham family-style with all of the... More

Not many places to eat in Arrow Rock but you can't go wrong with this restaurant. Family style. Fried chicken is excellent. This place will take you back in time but with good food and service.

Last time we were at J Huston it was for lunch and the food and service was scond to none...this time with friend we made dinner reservations and again, no surprise. The dinner was served family style and again the food and service was over the top. Fine wine, great fried chicken, brisket and all the sides was like being... More

This is a family style dinner we had. It included a nice salad to start. The meal itself included chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, green beans, corn, and cole slaw. White or chocolate cake was served for dessert. The food was very good except for the white cake. Not too sure what they did to that, but it was... More

Two friends and I had tickets for an afternoon matinee performance at the Lyceum Theater. We decided to lunch at the J Houston Tavern. I agreed to make the arrangements. On a Saturday, in mid-June, I accessed the web page for the Tavern. The site offered a link to make reservations and stated the restaurant would confirm by email. A... More

I have been up there twice at lunch and the Philly Cheese Steak was my go to item and have not been disappointed. The steak is tender, the peppers and onions add flavor and color and the cheese melt makes it a party for your to eat. And if you still have room after the sandwich and your choice of... More

If you like ham and fried chicken, this is the place to eat. The meal is complete with mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, peas and a salad. It is a good family restaurant and for Arrow Rock reasonably priced for an evening meal. The service was excellent and she stopped by often to make sure everything was good and if... More

We've eaten there several times. The meals are affordable and the atmosphere is in keeping with the historic town of Arrow Rock. We find the best time to go is for dinner ...when they are serving friend chincken and ham. The food is served family style. Out grandchildren loved the chicken, and kept asking for more. We have also had... More
