Every time I'm home I have to squeeze in to the Heidelberg. Fried pickles and a boot before we hit the town. Great times!

Whenever in Ann Arbor I always make a point to get to this place and enjoy the same thing -- sauerbraten, spaetzle, sauerkraut's s (not too strong which is good), and the potato pancakes with some apple sauce, and usually the apple strudel if they have it. It comes with their house bread. It's all consistently great, excellent flavor--one of... More

Visited first and last time last week Rathskellar, dark, dingy and dirty. Couldn't care less service Food...would have been thrown out at a decent German restaurant. Veal murdered, potato pancake tough, apple sauce and sour cream never arrived. Ugh !!! Beer in a Pilsner glass was high point of the experience...Metzgers here I come... Ed. F.

Food was fresh out of the freezer. Service was OK but there are better restaurants around. I Would find somewhere else.

We wanted to eat at Metzger's but we were only in Ann Arbor around lunch time and Metzger's apparently isn't open for lunch...so we went to the downtown Heidelberg. Never again! We should have known not to order much since we entered an empty place. Waitress was fairly pleasant but what was going on in the kitchen was anybody's guess.... More

My wife, brother in law, brother in law's friend, and I ate at this restaurant after said brother in law became curious about it when recently walking by. While the food and rest of the experience didn't rise to the level of excellent, my stroganoff was certainly very good, and the other three enjoyed their meals. I notice from the... More

Waitresses were complaining to each other. We ordered dessert and it took almost 30 minutes. We were the only ones in the main floor restaurant. Don't bother to go.

Some of these reviews were pretty harsh so I was afraid to try this place. I dined with three others and each of us got a different entree. Everyone liked every course they were served. One or two of our items did not seem to be quite hot enough, but basically good. We tried the sauerbraten, sausages, spicy hamburger patty... More

This was certainly a disappointment, looking forward to a good German meal. I can't believe they have stayed in business so long. The worst German food I have experience. I ordered Sauerbraten dinner with red cabbage and hot German potato salad and my husband ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with red cabbage and spaetzle. Nothing tasted good or had a hint... More

Having been born in Austria and lived in Germany several years I was looking forward to a delicious authentic German dinner earlier this evening. I ordered a combo plate with Wiener Schnitzel and Weisswurst with a side of German Potato Salad and Spatzle... the Spatzle was the only thing that remotely resembled German cuisine... the Weisswurst was very dark reddish...
