Excellent Elephant

The only disappointment I had dining here (for I did dine there often) is being unable to find a seat at supper time. The food is consistently fine, the staff are happy to please and the ambiance is one of comfort. I would return tonight if I weren't relocated half way around the world.

This restaurant is located in a nice yard so the surrounding buildings hide the city noises perfectly. The tables are set up on a wooden terrace so you are actually eating out. The service is good and they also provide insect repellent, which is nice. The lists consist of Thai, Chinese and local foods. The Myanmar tempura was especially good... More

Eating here is definitely a good choice if you want to splurge a little since they have 15% tax that isn't included. They have wifi, the best mocktail I've had so far in Mandalay was their Refresher and as for the food the aubergine dish and the roselle leaf salad were delicious! They also serve you shrimp crackers as a... More

We went based on the laudatory reviews in the Lonely Planet. It was simply awful. The food is bland, even meat cuts were of bad quality, the prawns were actually baby shrimp. Everything looked and smelled stale. And we had a couple of rats running around our table. Total bill for two was around 40 usd for a meal that... More

Wow, what an epic fail. We ordered the vegetable curry, okra satay, and green tea salad. The curry was inedible because it was soaking in a pool of oil. The okra was flavorless and soggy with oil and the the green tea salad was also over saturated with oil. We left after eating only the okra, with upset stomachs due... More

On our way back to the hotel, we were sharing our thoughts about how wonderful it would be to find a nice cafe as we felt quite hot and dry.... Imagine our delight when this sign popped up around the corner and the trees/palms around the green elephant restaurant immediately made us feel invigorated. On getting out of the taxi,... More

The menu is well organized with a long list of local food. The setting is pleasant and the staff is attentive. You can get food like this all over Myanmar (especially if you are willing to eat street food.) The menu has a special box announcing that they use no MSG. However two of our dishes were so salty, it... More

I understand from everyone else's reviews that there can be mixed experiences here. My girlfriend and I came here after seeing it in our guide book. In short - the service was good, as was the food. Decent price for a touristy restaurant. This probably isn't the best place to eat in the whole of Burma, but was great for... More

My green curry was ok I've eaten much better and it was all pinkish in colour which is odd for... More

Dining by myself is sometimes an awkward endeavor. However, this charming garden and polite staff made for an enjoyable experience. Obviously --full of foreigners--- a bit of a tourist trap. But who cares, if the food is tasty and service prompt.
