Given that Lonely Planet (totally incorrectly) rated it some of the best food in the country, our expectations were set pretty high. After spending 10 days in Myanmar we were curious to try this highly rated restaurant and much to our disbelief, it was awful. Half the items on the menu weren't available,

The food was pretty good. This restaurant is used by lots of tour groups and is part of a chain. The building itself is quite nice.

We went for the garden, which was charming, lit by candles and lanterns. As a party of 10 we ordered several dishes with many duplicates but the service was terrible, and random, as ever (but unusual to have hot vegetable sides served with the cold salads starters). We did ask for everything to be brought together...it was also fiendishly expensive,... More

Busloads of tourists and still very friendly staff. We were wondering about the fact that food was not as spicy as it should be in this region. The answer by the waiter: "because the tourists don't like it".

We sat in the garden which is lovely. The staff could pay a little more attention. We ordered a starter which came at the same time as the main course. The food is good but a little expensive.

Most expensive meal in Myanmar was here..and only for 2 people. The food was fine..but I wouldn't go there again..very very expensive. Go around the corner on the main road and eat the same thing or just as good/better for a fraction.

We had read about the Green Elephant before we left and it was recommended again on our arrival. It was about a 15 minute (interesting) walk from our hotel (By the Red Canal) and was a perfect introduction to eating out in Myanmar. As other people have commented it has a lovely garden to eat in. Yes, it is geared... More

Expensive for what it offers, the saving grace of this restaurant is its candlelit garden. First impressions are pretty good - until careful scrutiny of the tables around you reveal an exclusively western clientele. The ultimate horror was the birthday cake procession, complete with a troupe of waiters singing a somewhat mangled version of happy birthday. The vegetable curry was... More

Went here as part of our tour group 'night out' and was pleasantly surprised. Good food and although a little more expensive was enjoyable. A number of power cuts, complete with torches provided to the table, added to the local experience.

We walked here from the Sedona hotel just a couple of hundred yards away round the corner as a local had told us it was "good for Europeans" which probably meant that he couldn't afford it but they spoke English. Our table was outdoors in a garden type setting, the food was good without being spectacular and the bill reasonable... More
