"but the food didn't live up to the other reviews" Well we could not disagree more. Having eating our way through many substandard restaurants throughout Croatia, it was a great relief to receive nominally the same menu properly prepared. Here we are in THE most popular town on the Adriatic, in the high season and expect to get bargains. In... More

1. The staff talk very loudly at the counter and everyone can hear them. 2. The quality of the food is poor: we had a vegetarian dish which basically it was overcooked roasted vegetables without any flavours. 3. It is very expensive, We paid 490 kunas for prawns with rice and the roasted vegetables. 4. The room downstairs looks like... More

Our last night with some great friends, so we wanted somewhere good to enjoy the evening. The service was excellent and maintains the high standards that most restaurants have looked after us on this trip. The starters were attractive with generous portions of mussels in white wine and garlic, the mushroom risotto cooked in squid ink was especially tasty. Avoid... More

We went here as a group due to the good reviews, and chose the set menu which was a shade under £50 pp. Of the four courses one (scampi with pasta and truffle) was excellent, two were nice without being special and one was bland. The service was very good and it was an enjoyable dining experience but the food... More

Service was excellent - we sat outside, at the side of the restaurant in a narrow alley which was very romantic - until the heavens opened and we had to retreat indoors. I had the set fish menu (440 kuna) and my wife the vegetarian set menu (220 kuna). Both excellent and I felt good value for 4 courses. We... More

Proto has very good food (octopus). If you have no RSVP they take you upstairs where I consider to be even more pretty than downstairs. Although Americans might be accustomed to quick service, tourists visiting Croatia need to understand that things roll differently. Servers are very productive but take things in a more relax sense.

The food was very good for the most part - the grilled squid seemed a bit undercooked and I have had better. The seafood risotto was good as were the grilled veg. A bit pricey. Seafood risotto for a third less in a bunch of restaurants in the old city. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. By the time I... More

During 10 days in Dubrovnik this was the only restaurant we visited twice - on the first night and the last - and it was the best of the lot. Highlights were the starter of Dalmatian-style scampi with melon and avocado balls, pine nuts and capers in a cream and white wine sauce (superb), the noodles with porcini mushrooms and... More

Having read all the raving reviews we went to the Proto in order to celebrate a double birthday. We had a table on the al fresco upper deck and enjoyed the setting. Something which puts me off in Croatia is that smoking is still allowed, even in a fine restaurant like the Proto. How do you enjoy your food when... More

Located in the Main Street of The old Dubrovnik , seeing that the president of Croatia goes there once and a while they charge you for a beer twice the amount of the other restaurant . Canor complaint about their sandwiches which are very good, service fair but a WATCH OUT FOR THE PRICES..
