We were staying at the Cliffside (very nice) and The Galley is right there so we made a reservation. The mailtre d' couldn't have cared less that we were standing there, was surly and took us to our table with no smile or pleasantries. The service was slow and indifferent. I have been lunching at The Galley for 15 years. True, there are better places for food on the island, but there is no better place to catch the quintessestial WASP Nantucket experience. Expect to be paying for this experience for a long time - but honestly you can't get better on Nantucket. I have been dining here for lunch and dinner for over 20 years and I just love it. It's like an upscale French/New Englandy bistro with outdoor seating overlooking the ocean. Great sunset views. It's romantic and yet not too couple-y.
