Mexican food varies by region, because of local climate and geography and ethnic differences among the indigenous inhabitants and because these different populations were influenced by the Spaniards in varying degrees. The north of Mexico is known for its beef, goat and ostrich production and meat dishes, in particular the well-known arrachera cut.The six regions of Mexico differ greatly in their cuisines. In the Yucatán, for instance, a unique, natural sweetness (instead of spiciness) exists in the widely used local produce along with an unusual love for achiote seasoning. In contrast, the Oaxacan region is known for its savory tamales, celebratory moles, and simple tlayudas while the mountainous regions of the West (Jalisco, etc.) are known for goat birria (goat in a spicy tomato-based sauce).Central Mexico's (DURANGO where we are from.) cuisine is largely influenced by the rest of the country, but has unique dishes such as barbacoa, pozole, menudo and carnitas.Southeastern Mexico, on the other hand, is known for its spicy vegetable and chicken-based dishes. The cuisine of Southeastern Mexico has a considerable Caribbean influence due to its location. Seafood is commonly prepared in states that border the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, the latter having a famous reputation for its fish dishes, à la veracruzana.

Good find, affordable Mexican

This was a good find for tasty, unpretentious, and affordable Mexican. The tacos were very good and the service was fast and professional.

We have been to La Posada many times with friends and family. The big selling point for us was the fact that it was BYOB, thus allowed for an affordable evening out. Unfortunately that has just recently changed, and so I'm not sure if we will be returning soon. The food is a bit over-priced considering the setting, and rather... More

Awful food. They randomly close the kitchen 2 hour early if they are having a slow day. Then I figured out why things were slow in there. Got very sick after eating a salad . It's like going to Mexico. Don't get ice or any uncooked food. Very bad service to boot. My doctor called to talk to the manager... More

Went to La Posada for the first time with work friends and from the moment we arrived felt like we were family. la Posada is a family owned small but very welcoming and comfortable restaurant. We tried an appetizer plate and we dove into it and thought each item delicious. The homemade salsa had a nice heat and was very... More

Stale tacos straight from Stop & Shop, bland salsa are an apt warning that a passionless dining experience awaits you at this noisy storefront restaurant in Arlington Heights. Indifferent, clueless waitstaff seem unwilling or unable to answer our basic foodie questions. "Is anything spicy", we ask. "Nothing spicy here" is the reply by the hostess/manager. That about sums it up.... More

We brought my parents here for Christmas vacation and we all enjoyed it. I ordered the Verde Burrito and the beef and seasonings were good, but it had a lot of beans. My mom had the chicken burrito and it didn't have many beans. The salsa was good with a strong Mexican Oregano flavor and some jalapenos. The Guacamole was... More

It was not fancy but it was absolutely delicious. I had their appetizer platter for my main meal and my husband had enchiladas. Everything was wonderful. I could see into the kitchen when the door was ajar and it was very clean as well. BYOB beer and wine and it was less than $30 including the tip for the two... More

When you're looking for a great Mexican food and want to save on your overall bill, bring your own beer or wine to this little hidden jem. Recently enjoyed dinner with three other friends and not only was the food great it was very reasonable. The staff is friendly and caring as if you are a guest in their home.... More
