We got off I95 to find a place to eat and ended up here after the place we were seeking was closed for lunch. We expected a bar with mediocre food and found that nothing could be farther from the truth. A bar it is, but the food is far from mediocre. It is freshly prepared and the menu is... More

A really fun and family friendly pub and restaurant, I highly recommend the Barking Dog. They have a very good pub and dining menu at reasonable prices! I love the staff here! They are friendly, attentive and terrific! This place is also central to beautiful downtown Amesbury attractions and shops. Really a great little place to stop in for a... More

We have gone to the Ale House, a sister company, many times and love it and saw that The Barking Dog was rated well on Tripadvisor so we decided to try it. What a major disappointment. Upon entering it was east to see that this place is dirty- way too much dust and unswept floors. The waitress, who was also... More

My wife drags me there for her favorite meatloaf, but I have gone through the menu that has 1/3 of the items listed as "new" after going for a year. I've pretty much given up. They claim to have a wide selection of Martinis but they charge $11 for them! and the bar has failed in the last three visits... More

I've had many meals at The Barking Dog over the past 6 years. I was there recently and tried a sandwich from the new menu. It's a warm & casual place, family friendly with a lively, welcoming vibe. After the dinner hour the bar crowd builds up and its a Good place to settle in & watch a Sox game.... More

Love this restaraunt's big sister down the street? Course ya do, it's excellent. Well Barking Dog is Ale House's darker little sister; so if you like that amazing food, but want a more pub/bar-like atmosphere where maybe you can sit at the bar and catch the game, this is the place for you. Me? I love both. I come for... More

Great neighborhood spot - great burgers and fries. "Cheers" kind of place: friendly and cozy. Good service at a fair price.

The dog is where to go when you want a "good meal" for a fair price. Always consistent with food, beer and service. From great burgers to sandwiches to steaks and pasta. We always feel like it's good home cooking.

We arrived in Amesbury after a transatlantic flight and were looking for something light to eat. This place hit the spot, the portions were generous and very good. Our server Lesli was what made it memorable, she was great, efficient knowledgeable and very helpful. She made two weary travellers thoroughly enjoy our first evening in New England. If we are... Every town should have a a restaurant/bar like 'The Dog'. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and they try to make everyone, local or otherwise feel at home. This time I strayed from my normal burger which is definitively the best in town to a BLT which is delivered in a Pita and is stuffed full of food. My... More
