Description: Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure...
Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. Under the management of its owners, the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new American” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. The restaurant enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.

Great bar and pub scene, music sometimes too loud

The Federal bar is intimate with excellent drinks and a very good menu. The pizzas are fantastic. Depending on the night and on the artist, however, the music and noise level can be overwhelming, negating the ability to have the type of conversation that couples go to such a place to have. It's... read more

It's nevertheless a favorite. We go late, so... More

Incredible dinner. We go out often and we usually go for inexpensive local places. But once a year, for our anniversary, we splurge and The a Federal is always on that short list. It's pricey but well worth it. The menu is always and adventure. Nothing usual about it. Event the seemly ordinary is made special. I had a censor... More

In a small residential area in Agawam Mass you will find a Greek Revival style home turned Restaurant called The Federal. There are great "simply grilled" options and also unique dishes that are fantastic. Get the Bucket of Balls! This is one of our favorite starters. Our advise is to go early, sit in the bar for a drink or... More

For a restaurant to be described as "Impeccable" it's food must be superb, it's atmosphere must be welcoming and elegant and the staff must be attentive and competent. To be sure The Federal is all that and more. Truely memorable experiences happen here.

We head here for a nice dinner. With friends or alone, this is a treat. The food is excellent. Love the "be your own chef" option. Service is excellent. Great wine list and the cotton candy is always a welcome treat! The only negative is that it may be a bit noisy.

We attended the Easter brunch and the atmosphere is warm and lively. I ordered the salmon which I believe was poached. It was served in a delicious broth with peas and other veggies and was the best salmon I've ever eaten.

After reading all of the reviews, I expected to be wowed at every turn but ended up coming up a little short. Nine of us attended a business function in the private room which was very comfortable and had good acoustics. We had drinks, appetizers, entrees, dessert and coffee and everything was very good and mostly delicious. The service was... More

We heard good things about this restaurant and were about to make reservations, when we saw foie gras on the menu. We make a point of not patronizing restaurants that serve this cruel dish. So We won't be dining at the Federal until they remove this terrible item from the menu. Yes, yes, we know, it is probably delicious... but... More
