Description: Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 cooper street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. Under the management of its owners, the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new American” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. The restaurant enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.

We have had dinner at the Federal numerous times over the years. We had not been in probably a year or so, and visited last night with friends. While the meal was not bad, it certainly did not warrant either the price or a high review. For starters, the music was too loud, and then when the wine was poured,... More

The Federal is a very ornate, high end type of restaurant that as a very good menu, but can be expensive if tou are not careful. The service seems a little stuffy if your dressed in a somewhat casual attire. The food was very good & is a nice place to go if your in town for a visit.

The Federal is our #1 go-to restaurant for special occasions or whenever we want to really treat ourselves. The food is always excellent with unique ingredients that work well together while retaining a great complexity of individual flavors. Service is always very good and we are never disappointed. Congratulations to Michael and Christina for maintaining excellence for so many years.... More

We've dined at The Federal on more than one occasion, and have never been disappointed. The service is great, the atmosphere is lively, and the filet mignon is by far the best I've ever eaten. Following dinner, the desserts are amazing also. And, to top off the night, you can bring home special treats for your dog, child, or babysitter!... More

We go to Suffield, CT frequently to visit friends but have (until yesterday) never crossed the border into next-door Agawam, Mass. Our friends made reservations at the Federal Restaurant, and we could not have had a better meal or better service. This has got to be one of the best restaurants in New England. It was a Friday night and... More

We have the typical good restaurants in the area, but if your looking for that one place that is REALLY above and beyond, The Federal is the place. I think like any restaurant you hope your experience is the best and you don't get caught up on an 'off day', at the very least by going to the Federal, your... More

My husband & I used his birthday as an excuse to take our tween to the Federal for a" Fine Dining Field Trip." Our hope was for him to be able to practice his etiquette in what used to be the finest, local restaurant we knew. Unfortunately, as it turned out...the staff of the Federal also need to take a... We have always heard of the comments from The Federal Restaurant but never had dinner. It was a special occasion and I made the reservations. We both knew Tina from years past at another restaurant in the area. I just can't say enough about The Federal between the staff, food and service it was all "TOP SHELF". From the time... More

In the parts we have visited The Fed 5 to 6 times a year. We noticed the prices continue to rise while the quality has declined. Last visit my grilled shrimp was burned on one side to a crisp. Any Chef would have noticed. Sent it back and 2 shrimp again looked over cooked and dried out. I wonder if... More

This is definitely an upscale restaurant in atmosphere (an old New England style home) and upscale menu items/prices. There is not much good in the area so they were very busy on a Tuesday night, and clearly well liked (one businessman arrived by limo service). They are best known for their "risotto" balls, one of which comes free to each... More
