Red Hot and Blue is a full-service, casual-themed restaurant chain and caterer featuring delicious award-winning ribs, Memphis-style barbeque, smoked wings, and Southern sides and desserts. The atmosphere is steeped in legendary and contemporary blues music and delivers a large dose of Southern hospitality in a fun and entertaining dining environment. History: The first Red Hot and Blue restaurant opened in Arlington, Virginia in 1988, started by Lee Atwater, Don Sundquist and friends. Don Sundquist was from Memphis and served in the House of Representatives and as governor of Tennessee. The late Lee Atwater was an amateur blues musician and political figure that managed George H.W. Bush's successful race for the presidency. These men were friends who longed for authentic Memphis-style barbeque and great blues music. Unable to find that combination anywhere in the Washington, DC area they decided the only way to get it done was to open a restaurant of their own. The Memphis-style barbeque chain celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013 by partnering with a charitable organization at 24 different restaurant locations. The yearlong celebration culminated in the presentation of thousands of dollars in donations to local charities. The Name: The name, "Red Hot and Blue" is taken from the title of D.J. Dewey Phillip's radio show that that aired on WHBQ-AM in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950s. This radio show launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash and broadened the audience for artists such as BB King, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray and Rufus Thomas. Red Hot & Blue Dine-In, Take-Out and Catering. Hickory-smoked Memphis-style BBQ, Ribs, Wings, Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Seafood, Full-service Bar, in a Family-friendly atmosphere with a heapin' helpin' of Southern Hospitality!

Good food and atmosphere

A good selection of quality BBQ, sides and tender ribs, all served by an attentive staff in a fun atmosphere featuring good Blues music. Prices are reasonable and you will definitely leave full.

We've eaten here so often that we've almost burned outselves out on it! The food here is fantastic. Southern style barbecue and sides. It's nice to go somewhere that you can get good collards, cornbread muffins, potato salad, fried catfish, banana pudding, etc. We've never been disappointed in the food or in any meal we've had from here. They make... More

Great food, good service, good fun and very comfortable atmosphere. Great drinks and appetizers - but you HAVE GOT TO HAVE the fried okra. This and gumbo are why okra exists.

Pulling up to the restaurant, you would not guess that it is a fantastic BBQ joint. There is a Dutch style windmill on the roof, which would seem to indicate that the building used to be used for some other kind of restaurant. But step inside and try the food, and you'll be glad that you did! I was in... More

We stopped here for supper after a day trip to Dover from DC. We ate at so many good places in DC, but this was our favorite meal! We did make the mistake of ordering waaaaay too much food. Two Tennessee triples was a huge amount of food. Three meats, two sides, and cornbread. I'd recommend sharing and maybe getting... More

Food is usually good but this trip I was disappointed with my order of the pork nachos, they were cold and had been sitting for awhile. We were seated in the back and we could feel cold air coming in through the window. Server was good, but just not the same as in pass visits.

Wednesday noon, coming back from vacation. Stopped in for lunch. Nice crowd for a Wednesday, popular place. Cool music decor. Drinks come in small pitchers. Wife had marinated chicken sandwich. She took half home. I had cup of chili, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. All three were very, very good and my belly hurt when I left. Now we know... More

We frequent this particular location about twice a month and have never had a bad meal. We're working our way through the menu and haven't been disappointed yet (and probably won't be!). Their brisket melts in your mouth, the salads are of generous proportions, and the drinks in the pitchers satisfy our thirst. A shout out to the Brunswick stew... More

My wife and I were heading to BWI to start our vacation and stopped here to kill some time since we were running early. It wasn't our first time here and, as usual, we weren't disappointed. The Mason jars full of iced tea were a perfect accompaniment to my lunch of barbecued sausage and my wife's of her brisket. We've... More
