OK, A Bit Pricey

The good points: Spotlessly clean, nice staff and it's a local family run place, the kind of business I like to support. The BBQ ribs were OK, but a little too greasy and nowhere close to being as good as Texas Roadhouse's, which are always excellent - and a little cheaper, too. Will I go back... read more

This little mom and pop restaurant is perfect for BBQ. I literally tried everything on the menu because I was curious. All of the meat was excellent, the ribs melted in my mouth! Turnip greens were great, not traditional and vinegary but better! Coleslaw was superb, and mac and cheese was perfect. I love that we could have a local... More

I am on a quest for the best barbeque on the north shore. It isn't here. All of the food is oversalted. I got the six rib plate and the friendly server gave me extra ribs. Maybe because one had no meat on it at all. It made me wonder if I had already eaten it. In the past, the... More

I had not been here in a while and wish I could still say that. Of 5 items we got, 4 were bad. The plate with ribs, 2 sides and cornbread....The ribs were way too salty. I know that the rubs that are put on ribs have salt, but this was over the top. The two sides-green beans, good (only... More

I have been to New Orleans three times, I have made my way here twice--intentionally. I love visiting the Abita Brewery, and before I go drink, I eat here. We ask them to serve us family style, give them a number (like 50 bucks), and get a full sampling of what they've got. I love the brisket, and pulled pork... More

This site includes several good reviews for Abita Bar B Que, but I notice they are from northerners who obviously have never experienced truly good bbq. First the sides are sooooo disappointingly mediocre. Before today, I've actually never had mac n cheese that just tasted like nothing...NO flavor whatsoever. The turnip greens obviously came from a can and were just... More

Here's the deal- this place can cook. The ribs are astounding, the brisket has an incredible smoke ring. The atmosphere is cool and family oriented. I have literally come from New Jersey twice, to dine. The food is great, simple and purest BBQ. The staff is attentive, warm and accommodating. Come here, ask for it family style- have it all!... I have to admit that I am not a BBQ expert, but I have eaten here over the years and find it overpriced and often overcooked. Staff friendly and service ok. Better served finding someplace else for Bar B Que. However, there really are many choices on the North shore. Out of the four I've tried, it is fourth.
