Wonderful Cafe in the Historic Heart of the City

Ego (no local uses the full name) sits quietly on a corner of Bolivar Square in Panama's historic quarter, Casco Viejo - a handful of outside tables, and a few tables inside ringing an L-shaped bar. Nothing in its modest appearance can prepare the first-time visitor for just how good this place is... read more

A warm summer evening. a square with twinkling lights and a flood lit church facade, a strolling guitarist and then very good food and wine - heavenly!! We ate ceviche that was fresh and flavorful then shared a locally caught simply grilled fish with a bottle of very acceptable Sauvignon Blanc while serenaded in part by a strolling guitarist with... The Peruvian flare is gone... octopus have no identifiable taste... taste of chicken rolls w/risotto is too cheesy... service is mediocre... Peruvian style ceviche and tiradito were ok... but fish was no fresh... Dined here 3 yrs ago... sorry to say will not make it back anytime soon

This is a great date spot with many tasty menu items. It's on the pricier side in terms of food in Panama, but about on par with less-fancy Canadian restaurants. Have the hot chicken stew ravioli or the octopus- both were fantastic!

My visit to Ego was very good. I found the food to be exceptional, the ambience was just right and the service good. I found the carpaccio exceptional and the pasta dishes seem like authentic Italian. The restaurant is located the old part of town, making the ambience exceptional.

Ego y Narciso has outdoor and indoor seating. The outdoor seating on the square is in my opinion nicer as you then can enjoy all the things happening on the square with different musicians performing and some vendors of touristic items passing by. Great seafood. Superb ceviche and really good octopus and tuna. The tuna that we ordered rare was... More

We tried different appetizers, all of them delicious, the main course was too. We sat outside on the plaza and enjoyed our meal very much. Service was excellent and we didn't think it was too expensive either, for the amount of food you get and also very tasty. Probably one of the best restaurants we tried in Casco Viejo.

The food is first-rate. I had an appetizer sampler that included incredibly good corvina ceviche. The steak was perfectly prepared, tender, and very flavorful. A memorable evening that included an excellent Argentine wine. You should not miss the experience this restaurant offers

We came to try this place after a recommendation from Las Clementinas where we stayed at recently. That evening everything was off- the ceviche was laden with mayonnaise which was really surprisingly to us as we've never tasted it that way anywhere. We got an octopus dish that had olive oil and mayonnaise (again!) even though the menu never mentioned... More

Wonderful meal! Great service! Lovely setting outside on the Plaza! Great place to leave on a evening stroll in the Old French Quarter out to the Old Spanish Seawall!
