Great Flavors, Service & Value

Cafe Rene offers great flavors, portions, value and service in an area full of tourist traps. I highly recommend it for if you are in the area. My sister and I had lunch here looking to beat the heat and we were both fully satisfied! The portions were way to large for us to finish, and everything... read more

Our group of 4 had a delightful lunch experience at this simple, small cafe opposite the Metropolitan Cathedral. There is a fixed 3-course menu, cooked at the kitchen open to the seating area; diners choices are limited to the kind of protein (e.g., fish, chicken, beef). We found the food well-prepared and fresh, and well worth the $10 cost. There... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this little restaurant off Independence Plaza in Casco Viejo. It is $10 for lunch or $25 for dinner. We had lunch. It was a choice of fish, chicken or pork. All came with a family style bowl of salad (very good) and an excellent rice, plus bread with an herbed butter and dessert (chocolate cake). We ordered... More

No ordering - they just start bringing you things. Some are good but many are odd or just average. We were the only ones in this restaurant on a Saturday night.

We had a very nice dinner here. Prices weren't bad but no real bargain either. Family style. Fruit drinks were tasty and fish and rice nicely prepared.

After spending 1/2h walking in Casco Viejo, my girlfriend and I, were hungry, we spotted that little café/restaurant, located right by the Cathedral. The owners are from Bolivia. Our fishs were served with a big bowl of rice + a bowl of salad + small entrees. It was cheap, service was fast. We had natural juices for drinks. Nothing fancy... More

This family run restaurant is a special dining experience. Husband and wife team own and operate the restaurant and the staff is super. The menu is fresh every day and the wine list is ample. The freshly prepared meals are delicious!

This Cafe was very nice. Lunch menu was small, so easy to choose what to order. It was a very big lunch for $10.00! Large salad, Spanish pate, bread with compound butter, chicken and flavored rice, 1" thick brownie for dessert! All very good!

Family of two fifty something parents and three twenty something youth all loved this place and the price is right! In the middle of cathedral square is this very homey restaurant that you can watch the preparers cook. The owner Rene is right there too. Just like you hired a wonderful cook for the evening. Loved it.
