Great Cuisine

Had a very pleasing meal at Baba Dochia late July. You have to be careful not to mistakenly walk past the small fascia of this establishment. Look out for the sign above, on the wall. (The width of the front of the building is short, but the length is very long). It happened to be very relaxed... read more

Not expensive. Broad selection of Romanian dishes prepared with skill. The manager is English fluent, outgoing and keen to offer suggestions for food and drink and any other topic you'd like to discuss. Near a university so tends to draw a younger crowd, and a large crowd later in the evening.

This restaurant does not have an English menu, and the server had some difficulty explaining the dishes in English. We ordered pork with chicken liver, bacon, and polenta, with a fried egg on top. This was very rich, the flavour was good, but the pork was a bit tough. We also ordered a grilled trout with mashed potatoes, which was... More

After a month in Bucharest I made this restaurant my best choice, because it's cheap (compared to other proper restaurant), it makes good traditional dishes, it's not crowded and it has nice and friendly waiters. I went to this restaurant very often for lunch, and every time I was ok. The only negative points: - the background music. It was... More

If you want to experience true Romanian cooking without joining the hoards of beautiful people in the old town then this is perfect for you. The menu is only in Romanian but the staff were very helpful with descriptions of the dishes. Do take the starter for two - this consists of cold cured and smoked meats, local soft cheese,... More

I've been there with a group of colleagues. We made a reservation and also we choosed the food in advance, so that it was served fast after our arrival, but barely warm. I had "Tigaie munteneasca (picanta)": a mix of beef, pork, chiken and vegetables, a tasty combination, spoiled by the not well cooked pieces of beef, which I had... More

I've been there last night with the coleagues. Great atmosphere, the staff arranged a private part of the restaurant so we could be by ourselves, which was great. The music made me jump on my seat, while the service was at its best. I had the mutton pastrami which was perfectly grilled, but the biscuits cake was too sweet and... More

I recently ate at Baba Dochia with a group of friends from work. The layout worked out perfect as they had an upstairs area that we could all sit together and enjoy. The food and service was awesome, everything I tried was fantastic, the entree to the desert. It is a very homey, friendly place to eat with great service... More
