A Highlight of Our Trip

We were in Sarajevo for 4 meals and we ate 3 of them at Karuzo - and it would have been 4 if they were open for breakfast! :) The food is incredible, the menu has a ton of options, the atmosphere is SO cozy - and Saša (the owner and chef) was an absolutely wonderful host. We very much... read more

First of all, the food was sublime and every single dish we had was amazing! But also, Saša was a wonderful host and such a lovely guy to chat with. He makes all the food himself from scratch and all of it was perfect. We ate at Karuzo three times on our two day stay in Sarajevo, is there anything... More

Enjoyed dinner with Sasha - friendly and personal service, great house wine and a phenomenal menu of vegetarian options. The specials board was especially deep during our visit and the food was top notch as good as any similar spot in the US. Of course, it's a small - so complaints here about not being able to get a seat... More

One of the few non-smoking places in Sarajevo, where chef Saša makes by far the best soup in town. Always freshly made, always interesting, and always a pleasure. Just like other food, be it the regular menu or the daily/weakly specials. It is amazing how inspired vegetarian food can be!

Sasha the chef/owner is a friend of a friend, and I've enjoyed getting to know him, thanks to several evenings of coming late, sitting around talking with him while drinking fabulous wine and exquisite Herzegovinian brandies, and buying up his leftover dessert. (The chocolate cake is so rich and incredible, yet it's all vegan and non-processed ingredients...meanwhile my friend swears... More

Sasha prepared absolutely delicious food for me, despite the fact that I had not made a reservation (which is essentially required). I feasted on tomato and ginger soup, a delicious beer, and seiten with roasted vegetables in a fabulously flavorful sauce. I told him he could be a great success in my home town, the premier cuisine tour de force... More

The Balkans aren't really the best location for a vegetarian - a lot of the food is very meaty and most vegetarian meals we purchased were typically a creative mix of side dishes or starters. However, Karuzo is an absolute gem of a restaurant that would do well anywhere in the world. They have a great mix of dishes from... More

Tasty and original vegetarian dishes, a world away from traditional (meaty) Bosnian food. Tomato and ginger soup and vegetable lasagna were excellent.

We're not vegetarians/vegans, but we often find these kind of restaurants serving good and clean food. We didn't make a reservation, which Sasha (chef/owner) found somewhat difficult, even though only one out of ten tables were occupied. He reluctantly seated us, but the atmosphere, menu and his great white wine made us look forward with big expectations. The California rolls... More

Sasha is a very nice guy and his food is creative, delicious and unlike anything else I have had in Sarajevo. Karuzo is not inexpensive (main courses will set you back ~17-25 KM), but it's worth every penny. As other reviewers have noted, this is a one-man operation and everything is cooked to order. Therefore, a reservation is a must,... More
