This is a very popular spot for lunch - my recommendation is to dress nicely unless you want to stand out as a tourist. This is in the old part of the City / business section. Professional attire is the norm.

When I sit down to a meal at Cafe Brasilero I usually think "That looks interesting and different." When I eat out I like to get something that I could not do for myself at home so something original is always a great start. I have always found the meals to be of great quality and the service is good... More

We picked this restaurant based on guide book and other trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. Although it is a daytime restaurant, we thought we would try our luck early evening and had no problem finding a table at 7.30pm. The tenderloin fillet with risotto was perfect as was a vegetarian pasta. Very good service in authentic surroundings. Highly... More

This beautiful old style cafe is situated in the heart of the old city in Montevideo. Serves excellent coffees and my favourite, the Cortado. Have some nice medialunas and sandwiches.

I travelled to Montevideo in July 2013 and thought this cafe was a godsend. Good food, coffee (choose the gaucho option for breakfast) and wifi in a lovely setting, conveniently located just off one of the main squares. Very friendly staff too.

Old fashioned early 20th Century cafe in the middle of the Old City, serving coffee and a variety of snack. An ideal stop in your Old City sightseeing, just 2 blocks off the Cathedral.

Only ordered hot chocolate and little hot medialunas with butter. Delicious! Place was spotless. Service prompt and friendly. Location great. Charming way to spend a rainy afternoon. And free wifi.

It is said to be the oldest restaurant in town, with all the legends implied. Very decent cuisine for a very decent price. The surroundings are great and you will definitely enjoy a nice lunch.

I've taken friends who are visiting from outside Uruguay to this cafe in Ciudad Vieja (the historic area) several times. It's a great introduction to the city, a warm, cozy yet elegant place to soak up old world charm, The Cafè corto, daily salad specials, and tarta manzana are consistently delicious. Service is sometimes a bit slow, but that's fine;... More
