We recently visited Montevideo and ate at WASA Ethnik Food twice (we would have gone again but the place was packed!). It's only open for lunch, and only on weekdays. There's a small table for two by the entrance, plus a bar that seats up to about 10 people. If you want to sit at the table, it's best to... More

We came here twice. Managed by a lovely lady and man that spoke French. It was some of the most delicious food we had over two months in South America. The juices were a nice surprise and everything was cooked well. Would strongly recommend you eat here.

I'm just going to reiterate what everyone else has said about this great place: every bite of food was delicious. I ordered the meal of the day and it turned out to be a starter of coleslaw with apple, but some of the yummiest coleslaw around. The main meal was a lasagna of curried tofu, also delicious and creative, the... More

In the past year, we’ve eaten at this restaurant at least 20 times. If not every week, at least every other week. It is our favorite lunch option and restaurant in Montevideo. We always order the menu of the day which consists of an appetizer and entrée and order a fresh, homemade smoothie, along with the café gourmand for dessert.... More

My husband and I arrived around 2:30 and found seating on bar stools. We very much enjoyed watching the chef and his lovely wife work effortlessly to provide a meal with so many flavors. I wish I was a foodie and could identify all the spices and sauces, but I'm not, so just enjoyed a most wonderful meal. 2:30 is... More

One of the best lunches in Ciudad Vieja. The menu of day is reasonably priced (250 pesos) and always artfully prepared. Also, they are probably the only restaurant in Montevideo that serves bagels. They do not take cards and only have a small bar and one table for two, so you may have to get there early or wait for... More

Perhaps the best price/quality ratio restaurant, not just of Montevideo, but of our whole country. Owned by a hardworking French couple, and with no employees (which helps, I suspect, to keep costs down). The menu du jour (two course meal) is extremely generous (sometimes even verging on the excessive). It never is the same, always entails an ingredient combination that... More

We love this place. The chef is an artist. We eat here at every possible opportunity. And we go way out of the way to make the opportunity.

I reviewed Wasa last year, calling it gourmet lunch on the cheap. While the food is still good, at $250 its no longer so cheap, and the service provided by the French owner was decidedly unfriendly. Combined with the uncomfortable stools, this is not my idea of a pleasant lunch experience.

Loved the ‘menu du jour ‘ that includes a starter and a main dish. I’m from the US and my husband is French and we are both food lovers in search of the unique experience. Having lunch at Wasa yesterday made our day and made us regret not eating their earlier. Walter and Stephanie, the chefs and owners, take the... More
