Imaginative Cuisine By A Very Nice Chef, Worth a Visit

I generally agree with the positive reviews of the restaurant, the atmosphere and service, but the food just didn't ring our chimes. My wife enjoyed the Sicilian swordfish (a bit overcooked), I kind-of enjoyed the naan fish (a bit under-cooked). The chef patrols the dining room and chats everyone... read more

My wife enjoyed the Sicilian swordfish (a bit overcooked), I kind-of enjoyed the naan fish (a bit under-cooked). The chef patrols the dining room and chats everyone up. He even called a taxi for us at the end.

The last thing Tandory needs is another review saying how great it is, but it really is that great! The wonderful chef Gabriel saw I was Dining alone and helped create a menu that would highlight the best plates in the correct proportion. The heart and soul of the restaurant, Gabriel is charming and kind, treating all guests as friends... More

Loved this place! Food, atmosphere, service, wines...everything done very well. The chef made only a perfunctory stop at my table, but my server, Cecilia, did an excellent job in explaining and recommending. A winning meal, beginning with the "sweet cheese" spread served with a small basket of rolls and bread - I so wanted to eat all of it, but... More

Cuisine is quite original, and the chef (and owner) takes his time to talk to you, explain the ingredients in each dish, tell you about the cooking process, and suggests what you may like. The ambient is very cozy, and it all adds to a very good dinner.

Gabriel's cuisine is simultaneously passionate and technical, producing imaginative fussions with astonishing accuracy and consistency.

one really feels being in a different country. service is good, food is 10 points, place very firendly, not many tables so one can really talk to each other and no need to shout.

the best restaurant in montevideo by far. excellent starters, and delicious different main courses.beware that the owner like any rock star wants you to try his newer creations... but if you have been there less than 3 times stick to the great classics (mollejitas, red nam, etc. ).

We ordered the spring rolls, a salad with honey vinagerette and goat cheese, and a chicken curry. Our food was definitely VERY good but not the best I ever had. The atmosphere was wonderful, the service was speedy and friendly. The Chef came out and asked where we were from, if we wanted anything else with our meal, and was... More

I had dinned at Tandory before, mostly the ethnic/middle eastern food that I love oh so much and that is pretty much impossible to have in Mv (at least prepared with this level of expertise, originality and authenticity). These had been dishes full of exotic flavors, complex, seasoned to perfection. This time I joined a friend for dinner and upon... More

Excellent starters but I was disappointed with my fish main course. Personal attention from owner/chef, great decor but very pricey. Was it good value? Almost.
