This is one of the good restaurants in the "mercado del Puerto". I just arrived in the city and it was one of my priorities to visit. I expected the market was similar to the São Paulo in Brazil. It is not the same but is an interesting place to visit in Montevideo. I love the food, well prepared, really... More

This restaurant operates a UYU100 cover charge if you're eating. BUT, that isn't a minimum charge, it's added to your bill regardless.

El Palenque, at the Mercado (Market) is not a ellegant restaurant. Actually, the ambiance calls for informality. We were 4 at the table, and each of us ordered something different. My choice was a fish "brochete farci" with shrimps. It was one of the best meals in my life. Simple, tasty and delicious. The other three in our party weren't... More

Great option at the mercado: delicious food (cattivelli sausages highly recommended) and attentive service despite the crowds and busy surrounding. We sat at the bench right in front of the grill, and even though it was hot and we smelled like parrilla for hours afterwards, it was a very interesting experience to see how they cook the meat. Highly recommended.

We found this restaurant by accident when we were wandering around the old town area. We are very glad we did! The food was excellent and the service was attentive. I have celiac disease and can't eat gluten, and they were very knowledgable about gluten and told me what entrees and starters were safe to eat. We enjoyed our dinner... More

Walked through the mercado looking for a place. Almost went with the place Tony Bourdain went to but we saw this place and were drawn to it as so were a lot of people. Steak was delicious. The suckling pig was delicious. Expensive relatively speaking for uruguay but down there at the mercado everything is expensive. We sat outside which... More

... there is this kind of municipal market with several restaurants and stores. El Palenque was indicated by friends, and it was a great option. Excellent food and service. Good options of wines with reasonable prices. It worth a visit.

best meat and fish and seafood (try the octopus!) in the Mercado del Puerto environment. Also best for business lunches. Be prepared to pay for it; it is expensive even for Montevideo!

Good location, probably one of the most pricy restaurants at el Mercado but on the other hand, this is without a doubt the top touristic area of the city. Before getting into the meat experience, it is worth sitting at the barra (bar next to the parrilla) and enjoy the local vibes by having a medio y medio (the local... More
