This is my second and last time at El Palenque. We asked for french fries that didn't come. The meat (assado de tira) was overcooked and full of nerves. The service was lazy. Medio y Medio by El Palenque, a local sparkling wine, is overcharged - about US$ 15/bottle- there are better and cheaper options anywhere in Uruguay. Finally, we... More

Mercado del puerto is a very nice place to eat and buy handcrafts in the square in front of! El palenque is a very interesting restaurant with a nice attendance and greats beefs! Ask for rack de Cordero you can't find in the menu!!

If you are in Montevideo, do not miss a lunch at "El Palenque" in the Mercado del Puerto. Great fish and beef meals. Excellent service.

Walking in the old town in the Mercado we had a great typical meal. It is fascinating to watch them grill the meat using embers from wood sticks in spite of the ambient heat. We had lamb and Ojo de Bife and it was delicious! I asked a local sitting next to me no many times you need to come... More

I have been there twice. At the firet time everything was perfect. At the second time the service was not good... As it is a typical restaurant and very near the pier, when the bigs cruiesers come, the restaurant stay full.

Well, for meat eaters it is really delicious. Sit at the counter. It's fun Remember to ask for a wine of grape "tanat", characteristic of Uruguay

El Palenque is a very traditional restaurant in Mercado Del Puerto. The steaks are great especially the bife de lomo and the Entrecot. Despite being a little bit expensive, visiting this restaurant and the Mercado del Puerto itself is worthy when you are visiting Montevideo.

This is one of the good restaurants in the "mercado del Puerto". I just arrived in the city and it was one of my priorities to visit. I expected the market was similar to the São Paulo in Brazil. It is not the same but is an interesting place to visit in Montevideo. I love the food, well prepared, really... More

This restaurant operates a UYU100 cover charge if you're eating. BUT, that isn't a minimum charge, it's added to your bill regardless.

El Palenque, at the Mercado (Market) is not a ellegant restaurant. Actually, the ambiance calls for informality. We were 4 at the table, and each of us ordered something different. My choice was a fish "brochete farci" with shrimps. It was one of the best meals in my life. Simple, tasty and delicious. The other three in our party weren't... More
