we had a brasero de mar for 2 which was quite expensive and the food quantity was just for one, comparing what other tables had on their plates

Best Parilla in town as well one of the most typical experiences you can have in Montevideo. Fortunately not a tourist trap, the meat is great and the prices right!

there are many "outdoor" restaurants at the mercado, where you can sit on a stool and enjoy a Parillada. However, i prefer the more formal setting of el palenque, where i can still enjoy all the benefits of the Parillada, "BBQ" whilst sitting down and enjoying a glass of wine from their extensive selection of great Uruguayan vintages

It is certainly a must go in montevideo if you want to eat a really good meat and uruguain parrilla. The only complaint is the very slow service. The waiters are very polite but they took a long time to answer.

Have you ever been challenged to decide which is best: An Uruguayan or an Argentinian Parrillada? In soccer it is easy.. Argentina wins, perhaps! Not so easy when it comes to steak houses. The beef we sampled at this steakhouse was of high quality and prepared in the Uruguayan style with some saucier preparations. Needless to say, if you like... More

Following recommendations from friends and magazines, we went to El Palenque to try the traditional Uruguayan "parrilla". I must say this was definitely one of the best places I ate meat ever and it is a must go for anyone visiting the "Mercado del Puerto" in Montevideo.

Recommended and reserved by the Sofitel. The Mercado del Puerto and surroundings are rustic but fun. I started with a simple salad followed by "chinchulines" and "mollejas" and my wife grilled lamb chops. All excellent. The desserts of fudge pancakes and crème catalan were also very good. Service and wine selection was all excellent

The place was packed and they sent us upstairs where one crazy waiter was running all over the place. It was fun to watch but that meant our service suffered. Never got the appetizers....the wine came at the end of the meal...it took forever. However, the food that we did get on our plate was delicious; both the 'asado de... More
