After the disappointment in a restaurant nearby, we came here not once, but three times during that week; I think it says it all! Excellent food & wines and, despite the number of guest to be served, Attentive Service was there at all time!!! The best, Daniel; Pleasant, Dedicated, Professional (attentive to details); only the first day I had to... More

There are multiple parillas near the Mercado del Puerto; I only ate at this one. The atmosphere is nice, with indoor and outdoor tables and seating at the counter by the fire cooking the meat. I had no complaint with the food, but there were attempts to pad my tab. I declined the couvert, but the waiter left it on... More

We ate here four times during our stay in Montevideo as it was close to our hotel and had great food. Professional staff who were willing to take time to explain menu items to English speakers (and they do have an English menu available). Yes, they charge "cubierto" or cover charge, most restaurants in Montevideo seem to charge it, but... More

The service was great. Food presentation was nice. Location was interesting with several restaurants under one roof. All restaurants cooked with a parrilla, making the area a bit smokey. Menu was large with many choices of food and wine.

The last time I was my girlfriend I felt ashamed of the service she got from the stuff. We always used to go there as it was perfect food and service was great now I wanted to hide under the table. WE HAD A FLY IN THE SALAD and they not even said sorry! Never again unfortunately. Food is good... More

Staying in this part of Montevideo because of the ferry to Argentina, we discovered that good food is hard to find in the evening. Most of the well ranked places in the area close before dinner. Trying to find a place to spend our last UR pesos, we ended here. Wasn't the worst meal of our vacation, but not an... More

I visit Montevideo regularly with my Uruguayan partner and one of our traditions has always been to visit El Palenque in the Mercado del Puerto, just like his grandparents did years before. Unfortunately, we had such a bad experience the last time we went that we have decided that was the last time. Service is appalling (I had to ask... More

We ate at El Palenque our first and last Saturday in Montevideo. It is an amazing experience - especially on Saturday afternoons when most of the locals go. The Mercado del Puerto is bustling with activity and the heat and sizzle from the parrilla fires, the smell of the meats grilling, and the noise of the crowd and occasional samba... More

This is my second and last time at El Palenque. We asked for french fries that didn't come. The meat (assado de tira) was overcooked and full of nerves. The service was lazy. Medio y Medio by El Palenque, a local sparkling wine, is overcharged - about US$ 15/bottle- there are better and cheaper options anywhere in Uruguay. Finally, we... More
