Our best meal in town

We got dinner here simply because it was right behind our B&B (Hostal Iskay), and it was deserted, the waitress was slow and a bit clueless, and we waited forever. But then... it was so good! The guacamole with yuca sticks was huge, super-fresh and delicious, and the lomo (sirloin) with Huacatay... read more

We went here on the recommendation of our Inca Trail guide since we wanted to get some good local Cuy (guinea pig) while in the highlands. The place is a little hard to find, we went for dinner and its definitely in the more local part of Olly-- we got a little lost in the dark walking there but got... More

I've been here several times now and also send clients there (I own a tour oeprator). El Huacatay never disappoints in surprising myself and my clients with super original, enormously tasty dishes born from the creativity of the owner and the chef. All-Peruvian ingredients, but in combinations that I never see anywhere else. Not the cheapest place, but very, very... More

Authentic Peruvian food is delicious and inexpensive. This is does not have either. Our food was bland and it cost s/20-s/25 per meal. Down the street at Sergio's we had the Menu of the Day (soup, main and drink) for s/6 per person.

We thoroughly enjoyed the meals that we spent at El Huatacay! It is not easily found but once we found it (by chance), we kept craving their food. Try the guacamole with yucca sticks (?) for dipping. It is great. The owners have the cutest little daughter who greeted us and kept us entertained. We loved the stuffed peppers, the... More

Our hotel staff recommended this place. We were the only diners, which was a downer. Excellent stuffed peppers and Yucca chips. Friendly service. Not too sure about the squealing caged guinea pigs (cuy) in the yard on the way in...are they being fattened up for the tourists?

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of cuy (guinea pig), but I guess it's something you should try if you visit Peru, and this is one of the best places to do it. They have their own cuy "farm" and claim to be the experts in this dish, providing it to other restaurants. The most popular preparation involves... More

Definitely recommended. A unique spot right near the center that has authentic food and quality service. We went for lunch. We had gone earlier in the day to order our guinea pig and came for lunch to enjoy our feast!

My wife and I read the positive reviews on this restaurant and decided to try it out. The food, ham sandwich and pappas rellanos exceeded our expectations. We believe it is one of the best restaurants in Peru, The service was wonderful with the waitress going out in the night for ato fetch us a mototaxi. The restaurant epitomized a... More
