Good food but I had very high expectations

We really wanted to try one of Gaston's restaurants and did not get a reservation at Astrid & Gaston. We were very excited and had high expectations for La Barra though. We ordered mini quinoa burgers for appetisers, which was great, and also the fish of the day to share. For dessert we've had the... read more

This is certainly a rare treat...Gaston is certainly the most famous chef in S. America & one of the most famous in the world. Elegant to the limit, quiet, dignified. Send your taste buds to heaven & yr wallet to hell!

We arrived into the courtyard in front of this restaurant in a grand renovated large home. The entire place is hip and fun, the staff very well trained and on top of provide you a great evening and dining experience. We were provided a 2 language menu and taken thru the preparation of each interesting plate. So we started with... More

My expectations were higher for this restaurant, the service was impeccable and well polished. The food, whilst very good, bordered on normal. Some dishes were very well executed whilst about half were uninspired with too simple and less than perfect cooking. Overall it was a good experience, but pricy by Peruvian prices for what was served.

Went there on a Sunday evening. Extremely arrogant and unfriendly lady at the reception. Food was good but nothing to remember. Service was confused and not accepted for such a place. Sincerely, for the cost the outcome is rather poor!

A group of us had a private dinner in the back. Easily one of the best meals we had. Service was impeccable. We ordered a tasting menu for each person. For the quality and quantity of the food, it was worth it (comparatively to New York City prices). The open kitchen was also very nice - the employees were very... More

The setting - spectacular. Located inside an old colonial house, Astrid y Gaston in Lima is both classy and stately. The front room of the restaurant resembles the lobby of a boutique hotel, while the dining room I was in is small and intimate. Love all the art work around the restaurant. The food - excellent. My friends and I... More

About 3 years ago Astrid & Gaston moved to a new location, and they opened La Barra. Both restaurants are in the same house, though they have completely seperate kitchens. This review is for La Barra, which was WONDERFUL. The food was excellent, the service was top notch, and the cocktails were amazing. Everything is served as small plates aside... More

Everything we had was exquisite. Devine! We ended up eating at their restaurant, next door (a la cart) called La Barra because we didn't have advanced reservations. Would definitively return if I dare to go back to Lima. The cochinillo was the best I've ever tasted.

Went for lunch and had the 10 course tasting menu paired with wine, beer and pisco. The service was brilliant and not at all pretentious. The staff could not have been nicer or more friendly. The food was simply amazing! I could spend the entire review just mentioning how good the butter was. Really, the butter was infused with anise,... More
