Great Food But Double Tipped

The Jose Antonio is a lovely, charming, old-school restaurant that serves genuine Peruvian food. The food was great, the service was excellent but, as happens in some many countries, the waiter convinced me that the "servicio" of 10% was for the kitchen staff and did not include the waiters. The relenos are unbelievable- a sauce that defies description or comparison. My entree of sea bass was fresh, well textured and also had a great garlic sauce. Very good service and ambiance. One of the best pisco sours, and complimentary to each arriving diner. Big plus, it is open for dinner on Sundays, something that is hard to find in... More

There are a very few places I know that can rivalise with Juan Antonio's lomo saltado. It is quite pricey considering the actual cost of the ingredients – you can find a "decent" lomo saltado for half of the price – but when you taste it for the first it, you quickly see that it is well worth the money... Every trip that we do to Lima we go to Jose Antonio in Magdalena to eat the Peruvian dishes that we miss living in Canada. Our favourites are the Aji de Gallina, Papa rellena, Cebiche and Tamales. The prices are good and the restaurant is decorated in the colonial style, it is more visited by business people.

Here on business, my host brought me to Jose Antonio for lunch. This is near Miraflores district, and wow, the food was terrific. They have a buffet, and my host said it was good, but better to order from the menu. The buffet looked terrific, and was well attended by the locals (a good sign) My host ordered an appetizer,... Jose Antonio is a perfect place to get the classic Peruvian dishes without the novoandino dishes. The aji de gallina is to die for, as well as their classic lomo saltado. The restaurant is decorated with colonial and Peruvian artifacts. The food and atmosphere is well worth the cost of the meal.

We visited this restaurant after a taxing trip from a Galapagos cruise via Guayaquil and Quito. The welcome and service were warm; the food hearty and well-prepared.
