A must in Lima

Clearly a well loved institution, this bar restaurant on a busy corner site just opposite the presidential palace in central Lima is a must-go destination. It breathes history. Goodness knows when it was last decorated - but it's well-worn look is part of its charm. It is very busy but the staff... read more

Loved the Pollo Saltado which is chicken with vegetables in this incredibly delicious light sauce served with rice. This is supposedly the oldest restaurant in Peru. Very much a locals place so nothing fancy but you feel the local vibe here and the food is outstanding.

Please ignore reviewers here saying that the food was not up to scratch or that the service could be better. This bar has been supplying no nonsense stick-to-your-ribs fare to Limenyos for generations and proudly refuses to bend its knee to tourist money. The staff won't fawn, there';ll be know cheesy Peruvian entertainment. The food is served on simple plates... More

This place is worth a visit if you are close by and doing the tourist visits to the area, just to experience the uniqueness and genuine feel of the former times. However I agree with the other reviews that the food could be a lot better and could do with some updating. The menu is certainly interesting with some very... More

I didn't have a good experience at this restaurant. Went a couple of times because I was close by, but I would not choose it again. It is fine being an old fashion place, but they could do something about the maintenance. The service was very slow, the wait staff showed no interest for the guest, moody people. Food is... More

If a restaurant is over 100 years old, they must be doing quite a lot right. We were introduced to this place on a guided tour and came back for lunch afterwards. Good decision. By 12.30 there was not a spare seat, the customers being a mixture of locals and tourists. The Pisco Sour was excellent and the Creviche very... More

It's an interesting place to eat, the decor is ancient and so are the staff. Be patient and take the safe option when it comes ordering food. We ordered a few dishes and felt a little dodgy afterwards, I wish we'd stuck to just the Ham Sandwich which was incredible!

My fiancé and I came here twice. The first time we eat Causa and shared a ham sandwich. The beer was nice and cold and the pisco was very good. I read the reviews about waiters being slow. We received that same service, but we learned that in Peru almost every place has slow service so we learned to live... More

Many of Lima's attractions date back to the 17th and 18th centuries but here's a place that's just over 100 years old and seems to have changed little. I don't think they use the antique coffee machine but the atmosphere gives a taste of what Lima must have been like before McDonald's and Starbucks.

A cute little bar just off of the main square in Lima. It's an old place full of character. The service was good, and we enjoyed the drinks. It's great place just to relax for a bit, it's got a great vibe, and interesting old photos on the wall. Great pisco!
