The Alpandina dishes offered by the Zig Zag Restaurant are the result of a creative culinary fusion deeply rooted in the mountains, where the sun endows foodstuffs with energy and balanced components. The dishes most representative of Alpandino gastronomy arise from a marvellous synthesis of unique time-hallowed ingredients from all over Peru, combined with ancient and modern culinary techniques from the Alps and the Andes. One of the results is our great speciality: Volcanic-Stone-Cooked Meats and Fish. This culinary concept was generated specially by the restaurant's proprietor and Chef, Michel Hediger from Switzerland. During the course of many years in Arequipa, Peru, he has developed an original gastronomic proposal which enables one to savour different kinds of food prepared in an exclusive, healthy and very natural style, so that the restaurant's customers might compare and enjoy the country's different flavours. Located in the Historic Centre of Arequipa, opposite the lovely Plaza San Francisco, the Zig Zag Restaurant, with its impressive cast iron staircase designed by the famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, is a unique place to enjoy a gastronomic evening with a difference.

Good restaurant

Definitely order the meat here. I was not a fan of the pasta, but overall it was a good restaurant. I definitely had better food in Lima and Cuzco than in Arequipa, but this is definitely a solid spot.

It's located in an old colonial style building, giving it a nice and comfortable atmosphere. I ordered one of the four regional lunch menu's, representing the volcano region of the country. The food was great with many distinct flavours.

We went there twice during our stay on both occasions the food was top notch they Steve all of the meats on "hot bricks" which worked well, the choice on the menu is extensive and the portion size pretty good with a decent wine selection. The service is a bit frenetic with th waiter on the run on occasion, but... More

Great restaurant, getting a reservation is highly recommended as it will fill up. Balcony is specially Great. Made the best effort to make it a great birthday celebration (turned off the light with the dessert and the whole restaurant, including guests sang happy birthday). Food is good, could have been better if they asked how cooked you expected your meat... More

Service and food were outstanding. We shared the "La Mas Sexy" salad; a trio of steaks (alpaca, beef and pork), grilled to perfection and served sizzling on a slab of volcanic rock; and anticucho skewers of heart of beef. The meats come with the most amazing little sauces (butter smoothly blended with anchovy, a smooth and tangy purple olive, garlic,... More

Interesting fact , the staircase in the restaurant was designed by the same guy who designed the Eifel tower !! Also love the... More

We went to this restaurant and my fist request on arrival was the balcony seat. Bingo yes we got it. It is a lovely view over the park. Sunny day. Perfect. The food matched the setting. We bith had delicious salads that were beautifully presented and a glass of wine to go. Other tables food looked great too. A must.... More

My partner I had a dinner for 2 at Zig Zag restaurant while on a recent trip to Arequipa. It's located opposite the San Fransico Plaza and it's possible to reserve a table on the balcony overlooking this with a bit of pre-planning. The food served was absolutely fantastic and I would echo the suggestion to get the 'Trilogia de... More
