We arrived in Cuenca on a Sunday afternoon. Everything was closed. We run into this restaurant and coffee shop and proved to be a great alternative. Place nice, food fresh and tasty, small portions. Service good and staff friendly.

Like others I headed here Sunday night when the Italian in the La Posada turned out to be closed. Sunday night (only) they over paella with a decent selection of clams, shrimps, calamari, mussels (try to fine the pencil sized chorizo). 1/2 carafe of vino tinto @$10 USD was a good buy. Staff a little quirky but nice. Place named... More

We wandered into this restaurant after 5 on a Sunday. The other restaurant that we had planned was closed. Tapas were advertised, but were not on the menu. We had some crepes and I had the trout, which was delicious. the crepes were ordinary. The girls had crepes for desert which they must have liked, since nothing was left. The... More

Stumbled on this place by accident. I'm glad we went in. Nice casual European style tapas bar. Worth a stop.

We had spaghetti and meatballs (average - very garlicky meatballs) and chicken cordon blue with fries and steamed veggies (good). Extensive drink menu. Bread served with zesty sauce. Good coffee. Recommend the crepe desserts. Attentive staff. Nice seating area around bar with overflow in colonial center courtyard. Jazzy blue music background music

Dinner was tapas at Akelarre. We had four dishes: potato bravas, txapela (fried asperagus, Serrano ham, eggplant and brie), tempura shrimp, and breaded squid – all were excellent. This is probably the best meal we have had in South America so far! The room is full of interesting photos and artwork (the television is off). The music is classic jazz.... More

The Paella was advertised as a Sunday only special. There nothing authentic about the dish. It was almost like everything was from a can. On another visit we shared Tapas that were good.

Walking by several times, we'd noticed the place was busy, so finally seized the opportunity to try it. We had 3 tapas - the shrimp & bacon skewer, smoked salmon and the ham & cheese croquettes, all of which were delicious. Happily, we'd saved room for dessert. I had the creme brulee. Divine! Warm, with a hint of orange and... More

The surly (read non-existent service) was trumped only by misrepresentations in the menu. We ordered a tapa with goat cheese only to find out it was in fact queso fresco, the Ecuadorian equivalent of Velveeta. When the waitress visibly rolled her eyes when we disturbed her conversation with two other staff, we couldn't leave this highly overrated place quickly enough.
