Let me put it this way...we ate there twice in 24 hrs

This place is a must visit! As soon as you arrive, everyone is greeted with a handshake from the owner. The food is delicious and fresh. The guac (comes with dorito style chips) is beyond amazing. You literally end up licking your plate. The beers are cold and everything on the menu is a good... read more

Moliend Cafe has the best "Almuerzo," or lunch, that I have found in Cuenca, only $2.50, and it always tastes grat. the owners, a husband and wife from Colombia, are very friendly, and the place is almost always packed at lunch time. It is a good place to eat dinner as well.

If you are looking for vegetarian food in Cuenca, this is a good choice. Although not purely vegetarian, they were able to modify the "menu del dia" to have beans or soy meat for us. There are also numerous items on the a-la-carte menu that are vegetarian. Also, if you are missing drip coffee (not wanting instant), pay this place... More

This was our first meal in Cuenca and we happened across Moliendo Cafe. Lunch included a banana, soup, chicken, rice, yucca, salad and juice all for $2.50

First time there after living in Cuenca for almost a year.It was recommended by friends and I am glad I followed through on their recommendation.Excellent almuerzo, very friendly staff and an owner who greets everyone with a handshake.Fast service, food is tasty and inexpensive. The cafe is small so I would suggest you get there before noon.I will definitely be going back.

Crowded (people waiting for tables at lunch) which is usually a good sign. Cute interior but service was spotty. Friendly staff but the restaurant seemed to be in need of more servers and a larger space. Three of the four people in our group ordered the almuerzo and all felt it was a good meal for the price ($2.50 each).... More

A resident ex-pat recommended this place, near my school (Escuela Sampere) as his favorite almuerzo restaurant. My husband and I arrived at noon, when they open. For $2.50, we started with a hot potato/yucca soup and fresh lemonade, enjoyed filling entrees of rice and pounded chicken breast (me) - a bit dry, and ribs (husband) very tender and meaty, not... Ok first off, my wife and I are not those kind of gringos, we like trying to be a local and have no problem having a $1.50 almuerzo somewhere. That said, this place has more people than chairs (good thing right? ehh). When we got a place to sit, we ordered the arepas and our food was literally ice cold... More

It is a very small place, the owners are from Colombia, so you will find here typical Colombian food. It gets very crowded sometimes. The food is different from the rest of the restaurants around. The price is very good. You gotta go to this place to eat something different during your visit.

Note easy to put those two adjectives in the same sentence for a restaurant but here they do it on a regular basis. We came here twice and were delighted each time, a hole in the wall place where the food is honest and well done. Thanks you for making our stay in Cuenca even more enjoyable
