I went to this restaurant with some folks I met at my hostel. We had a great time. Our server, Adrian, was excellent. He was very accommodating to any request we had including an order of a custom salad that included anything that was green! A great evening!

My wife and I decided that we would walk a block or so further away from our usual eating areas around The plaza. The small entry door to the resturant was deceptive of the lovely decor we found upstairs. This was my meat night and it was the best I had tasted in Ecuador, chased down with a lovely Chilean... Finally got to try Las Monjas restaurant on Borrerro y Juan Jaramillo with friends visiting from Seattle. The menu is intriguing because of locally grown ingredients put together skillfully and imaginatively. A free appetizer included toasted bread with 4 different and unusual sauces like pumpkin seed, pumpkin pickle, tree tomato and the 4th I can't remember. They kindly served us... More

During the 3+ years my wife and I have been living in Cuenca, Las Monjas has always been a great choice for a first class lunch or dinner with friends, out of town visitors, or just the two of us. The modern decor is very attractive, the El Centro location is convenient, and the ambiance is quiet and calm. The... More

This attractive upscale restaurant is up a flight of stairs. There was only one other couple there when we visited and the next night there did not seem to be anyone there when we walked past. This is a mystery, because the food was creative and very good. The Cuencana soup, had pork, cabbage, pear, and (a bit too much)... More

We ate here tonight, starting with a shrimp appetizer and then having salmon for the main course (my wife and I usually split a meal because there is too much food otherwise). Both were fabulous and some of the best seafood we have had in Cuenca. The prices were quite reasonable with $5 for the shrimp and under $10 for... More

The food was actually pretty good and the waiter we had at our table was outstanding in his efforts to attend to our needs - six of us. We had delicious raviolis, the special ribs were frankly quite tasty and the locro de papas (Ecuador's national potato soup) was among the best we've had during our entire trip. However, the... More

We lunched at Las Monjas in Cuenca, Ecuador on 28 Dec 2013. The entrance is a small door across from the church. One then goes right up the stairs to a beautifully decorated restaurant on two levels. Linen tablecloth, linen napkins, crystal stemware in a natural wood setting. The menu is extensive, including many seafood items. I chose the Tres... More

We have lived in Cuenca for 8 years, and were just introduced to this restaurant during the holiday season. Our wait staff, Adrian and Carlos, spoke excellent English, treated us like royalty, and served wonderful food for all - including fish, steak, ribs and chicken dishes. And they are one of the few restaurants open on Sunday (from 11 to... More

We decided to try Las Monjas after readingTripAdvisor reviews. Additionally we had a guide in Quito who recommended the restaurant. He said their aji sauce was special and tasted like his grandmother's and no other place or family member was able to replicate the taste except for this restaurant. We were not disappointed as all four of us had excellent... More
