Perfect just before the lunch crowd.

We were wandering and suddenly hungry (happens quickly in the high altitude) so just took a chance. Upstairs with a small balcony where we could lunch in the warmth and enjoy the people-watching on the street. What a beautiful restaurant! Excellent food. My husband and I were there for their lunch special at $5 each. The food was delicious and our waiter was very nice and polite. Please go to Las Monjas and enjoy their food.

Centrally located, and nice views from the small balcony (two tables there only, so try to make a reservation). The warm seafood salad was too heavy on the clams, but the grilled trout (trucha) in lemon sauce was fantastic. Friendly and proactive waiter. If you have several days in Cuenca, stop by -- chances are you'll enjoy a very good... More

I have lived in Cuenca for almost two years and I have walked by this place many times, but never being able to see inside, I never gave it much thought. Called Las Monja (The Nuns) because it is across from a convent right in El Centro. Someone recently told me about it saying that they served many gluten-free items,... More

We enjoyed a delicious dinner (salmon for me and seafood platter for my boyfriend) here on Thanksgiving. They offered us a traditional Thanksgiving menu, but we opted for the normal menu and were not disappointed. Nice ambiance and decor, we enjoyed our dinner just inside the open balcony doors. We really enjoyed the food and would recommend this place highly.

We came here for dinner and were a bit disheartened when it was empty! However we were relatively early and there were a few more people by the time our food arrived. The service was very good and food fine. We thought it was a little strange that there was no drinks menu though! I had chicken in mushroom sauce... More

$4.25 for a wonderful set-menu lunch in an upscale restaurant setting. They usually have a vegetable soup, a choice of beef, chicken or pork with rice and a small salad. A juice and small scoop of sorbet tops it off. Don't miss out on this lunch!

My husband and I are telecommuting from Cuenca to the US. We stumbled into Las Monjas while trying to get out of the rain during our short lunch break the other day and the food was so good we've been back. For $4.25 you get a fresh fruit juice, a large bowl of hearty soup, your choice of beef, pork... More

We had a wonderful lunch here as a couple. The ambiance of this restaurant, including its gardens, is definitely upscale. Carlos has created a delicious fixed lunch meal for $4.75, not your run-of-the-mill lunch, but a robust soup, followed by an entree with special sauces and dessert. Also has some combination dinner menus, including entree and wine, in the $14-15... More
