Having recently discovered Hua Zhu in 2012 we have been extremely disappointed that it has closed down and not reappeared. For many it was an institution and such a shame that we are unable to enjoy their wonderful food.

Yummy cheerful Chinese food in an HDB setting - excellent for family dining - kids can play on the deck - adults can enjoy their meals and bring their own wine if desired. Food used to be better. Still worth a try.

We have been here many times and enjoyed the pepper crab but we were told last week its closing down as the owners are retiring after many years in the business. Its sad to see a place this good go

We have been dinning for 4 years @ Hua Zhu's. Prices are not Hawker Market but then again they are nothing close to any of the tourist traps downtown or around Orchard. Local atmosphere, good food and we have always had good service. BYOW is a nice added touch to keep the cost down. Nice little play area for the... More

I had a very disappointing experience recently as the sliced fish with ginger and spring onions was just awful as the fish was clearly not fresh. I suspect the fact that it was the first time that we chose to eat here during the week and given that the restaurant was completely empty may have been contributing factors. More disturbing... Every time my family and I visit Singapore we go to Hua Zhu for dinner with our Singapore friends. We have tasted pepper crabs in lots of other restaurants in Singapore and have to say the pepper crabs here are the best. Their chilli crabs are great too. And their buns are home made, fresh and delicious! Their other dishes... More

The most recent review is so far off track I cannot believe it.. Yes this is in an estate but it is great food, sensibly priced and allows you, encourages you, to bring in your own wine with no corkage charges. We were a family including some little ones who could scoot and play outside safely near the table .... More

Recommended by an expat friend and decided to give it a try, but it turned out to be my worst decision ever. Tucked in a neighborhood estate at Queen's street, it was mostly occupied by expats on a Sunday evening. Food & Pricing Food was mediocre and did not justify the exorbitant prices . Their signature prawns cost $34 for... More

I have been a regular at Hua Zhu for many a year and it is without doubt my favorite restaurant in Singapore . While the ambiance is a bit lacking the food more than makes up for this . The menu is mostly Szechuan cuisine with a leaning towards western tastes ( well that's what my Singaporean friends say )... More

We have been coming to Hua Zhu for 13 years and it is our favorite restaurant in Singapore. Fantastic pepper crab, dried chili chicken, beef that melts in your mouth, fried rice. The people are lovely and friendly, atmosphere very casual - on the second story of an HDB flat - you sit outside, eat beautiful food and enjoy.
