It is difficult to know why people rave about, and crowd this place. It is generally poor. The atmosphere is awfu,l it is crushed and you have no room whatsoever, not even to open a menu. The chairs are too low for the table and are uncomfortable. Some one said shabby but charming ? Just shabby really. The food -... More

Back in Singapore again one year later. Back at Nanbantei, and the food is still good. Not outstanding, but good. The yakitori bento box is delicious, but it seems like the rice portion is smaller, and the price has gone up as well. We also ordered the sashimi and tempura set - nice but nothing exceptional. There are other eateries... More

There seems to be countless yakitori options in Singapore, and Nanbantei is one of the better ones. If I'm not wrong, it's been in business for over 30 years in the rather shabby yet charming Far East Plaza. The location seems a bit odd but I guess that's why it's a bit of a hidden gem. I've come here for... More

Had a great, casual meal here tonight including grilled meats, sushi, grilled rice, gyoza, and various veggie sides. All for around $50US....a good deal for the area. Atmosphere is lively, busy, and small, but worth it! Right across the sky bridge from Royal Plaza on Scots hotel and next to the Marriott.

Last time we had the pleasure to have our dinner was a year ago. It is still the best Yakitori in the world by far. We as usual ordered Japanese Beer and hot Sake which go best to the tasty Yakitori. We love the Chicken Liver, Tsukune, Chicken wings etc. Make a reservation. Most enjoyable is to have seats at... More

Located in the far east plaza on the fifth floor this small japaneese yakitori is the perfect place for lunch. Very similar to places like this in Japan. They have a lunch menu and a full menu. We had the beef set and it was great.

Nanbantei is possibly the oldest Japanese Yakitori Restaurant in Singapore. Entering the simple wood furnished outlet, you can see that seats are limited in this small and comfy restaurant. Simplicity is the core of Japanese cuisine. I’m very glad that they accept seat reservations if not I’d probably be eating Tori-Q instead. The ventilation system is also strong, sucking away... More

I was craving for Yakitori since I came back from Japan on July. So I decided to have my birthday celebration at this restaurant due to the awesome reviews I've collected through various websites. It certainly didn't fail me with their substantial menu of different ingredients they used for Yakitori. All the food they barbecued will have a smoky taste... More

I lived in Singapore for over fifteen years and discovered this place sometime in 2002. I married a Singapore, so we visit my wife's home at least once a year and I love this restaurant so much that on each of these visits I always, but always, go back. Ambience always reminds me of little places I knew in Tokyo... More
